Newbie to DJ forum..  I've been using Avid DV for a couple of years, doing ok, but have had no formal training.  Recently got Avid Liquid.  Any suggestions for making the transition?  Training suggestions?

Go over to the Pinnacle web site and check out the Pinnacle Broadcast Network.  http://www.pinnaclesys.com/publicsite/us/Tutorials/Online+Tutorials/   Some good on-line tutorials.  I bought a training DVD that helped immensely in coming up the learning curve.  I came from Studio, so some things were intuitive.  Without the training DVD, I'd probably have given up after a while.  Check out https://www.adita.com/edition5.htm  I know it is for version 5, but most everything is still applicable through version 7.x.  The UI hasn't changed all that much.  There are several other video based training resources out there as well as some good third party books on LE.

thanks.  I appreciate the feedback and direction.  Sometimes my ADHD comes out and I can't see the forest for the trees...

Rookie, also check out www.creationtrek.com - you won't be disappointed with these very helpful tutorials.  On the site you can download lots of samples too.

Thanks.  Good stuff.

To jumpstart your learning, I urge you to buy a copy of Paul Ekert's book titled "Avid Liquid for Windows". It has become my main source of information. If its not in this book I resort to the Avid forums at www.avid.com.

I have no idea of how Avid DV works or its interfaces.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

I would be remis in my job if I did not put a plug in for the upcoming LIQUID IMMERSION INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM to be held in Charlotte North Carolina, October 17-20.

I have the book Jim recommended and use it often.

I also got the DVD from Virtual Training and found that full of helpful information.  It costs $99 for the course.  However, Virtual Training (www.vtc.com) also has an option where you can sign up for a month (or more) for $30.00 per month.  You can take any of the courses (over 400 of them), including the one on Liquid, during that month and either choose to renew or tell them you don't want to renew.  You can rejoin at a later date if you need more training or want to review some concept again that you need to use.  I think it's a very cost-effective source of good training materials.

Hope this helps,
Pam

For what its worth... the VTC training classes are the same as those developed by Myron Achtman at ADITA Video.  He simply licensed the content to VTC for distribution.

For those UK Liquidarians or potential Liquidarian's who cannot make it to The US Liquid Immersion session I have some news.  I am conducting a 2hr seminar at our local IOV meeting in Strood Kent (UK) on Thursday 9th August 07.  If you would like more information please email me via DJ and I will be please to send you the info.

windhamjim -> RE: Liquid Training (7/18/2007 12:00:25 PM)

I am not a moderator here yet.  I am a moderator in the AVID Products forum which I rarely visit.

Good luck on your seminar.

alanMAC -> RE: Liquid Training (7/18/2007 12:14:44 PM)

You are on this one very frequently Jim so I just assumed - one day!
Thanks for the good luck, this is part 2 (part 1 was 18 months ago) - as a "carrot" Avid have been great and donated a nice prize for our members (Institute Of Video - IOV) who attend and enter the draw.

Andy Browne -> RE: Liquid Training (7/19/2007 8:53:52 AM)

Alan... congrats on the Seminar.  Let me know how it went.

alanMAC -> RE: Liquid Training (7/19/2007 1:45:45 PM)

Will do Andy, me on my lonesome for 2 hours, if it is like the last one it will go very quickly with folks wanting more at the end.  I "may" just drop in some Juice for good measure and go through the workflow (time dependant).
