It appears there will be no more JuiceDrop volumes released, according to this post by DH in another thread: quote: http://www.digitaljuice.com/community_forums/fb.asp?m=119951 At least SOMETHING new will be available after having only a few JuiceDrops released this entire year. Doing downloads only, however, makes sense since there will no longer be the cost of cool packaging, inventory and shipping issues, so I do understand JD's new direction. There is some satisfaction in having the cool packaging, but then again, I keep all my JDrops in a blank 400 disk case with the packages in a storage box for one day when I have a wall of shelves for them. At this point, I am more concerned that little has been offered to print pros in the last year, except the single (plus MAYBE an alternate) JDrop in the ThemeKits and ETKpro sets, an expensive investment for just the JDrops. Maybe these downloads will offer a wider variety of themes and -- maybe -- different versions of the same layout to give us more flexibility with the files (i.e. versions similar to the poster frames shown in the galleries of each ETKpro release so we can add a pic under a JD frame) I do hope that we'll have the option of buying "X" number of downloads for a set price so we can place the downloads on a single DVD for future use. I can't tell you the number of times I have been under deadline and could not access the internet or a vendor's server due to technical issues. This move will provide DJ with much more flexibility by lowering overhead to maximize profit and -- hopefully -- allow wider investment in creative products we can use. While I am saddened that there will be no more JD packages, I applaud the new age of DJ so that we can soon see more offerings for print pros who seek new creative supports. I look forward to seeing the offerings and appreciate DH's willingness to let us know what is coming. _____________________________ dean |

The Juice Drops team has been so knee deep in Fonts that they have not had time to come up for air and work on Juice Drops.. 40 fonts have taken us all year.. Its challenging and a bit scary, hopefully people respond well to them. Once fonts rolls out we will mix it up a bit more and have new jds (single downloads) coming out weekly. But expect the price per piece to be more but at least they will be rolling out possibly daily. We've actually come up with a method to do extreme low run packaging so it will likely be an option for some (possibly all) download products but i'm not sure about Juice Drops (at least initially). If JDs were genuinely moving into a very fast cycle download only distibution, would that make it more feasible to get DJ user suggestions turned into actual products? Just thinking aloud here but, would it be possible to have say a poll each month for a number of JD topics and the highest polling options (say 3 or 4 a month to start with) get turned into JDs for purchase & download a few weeks later? Once again I'll add my request for more realistic JDs, closer to photo quality would be awesome.

Thinking out loud here: If JDrops possibly may be "coming out daily", then there may be some advantage in offering an annual license for unlimited downloads. This is offered by many other art services. For a reasonable annual fee, you can download "X" number of offerings. Maybe the per unit price would then be similar to what they are now... but more per unit if you want to pay as you go. That way, high volume users can budget for their annual, semi-annual, quarterly license. Just a thought.

It seems to me that DJ is letting us all know that prices are going up! I guess we have been spoiled these last 9 months or so, but i still believe you can price yourself right out of the many people who are now customers. Sure, we all will buy a few things here and there, but if prices go up substantially, I believe you will lose a lot of consistent sales traffic. Yes, i know prices were much much higher just a short time ago, BUT NOT NOW. In these economic times, you are reading more and more people on the forum saying they are becoming more selective. Let me give an example. I am very much into worship, but have only purchased one worship traxx. That one goes to my son's church (he's the pastor) as a gift, since they are so small they can't afford the worship traxx. They may be worth much much more than the $80 intro price, but i am unwilling and unable at this time to spend $800 on 10 items. If they were less, i would buy nearly ALL of them. Then the worship juice drops are coming and they will probably be $25 or more for a small set (yes, i am speculating.) The ETK Pro 20 was a great price at $40, but then to get that i had to buy something else. Ok, i liked two or three sets, so went ahead, but i can see a time that this guy, who has already cut back, will become less and less of a customer, with David's hints at higher prices. Not even considering the higher prices that downloads will bring. BTW, take a look at iTunes, Verizon, and Audible, and you will see some interesting data about lower prices of downloads. Another reason, that higher prices will cause less sales traffic for many of us, is that for those of us who are really getting involved into videography and photography and the costs of all the software and third party products, there are other needs that i need to consider in this area. Am looking at a $1500 digital camera (i know, i could spend more.) That is calling my name. Ok, what am i saying? If the costs are kept down as much as possible, then i can buy the Adobe software i need, the camera i need and want, the Digital Juice that is so good and vital, and even plan for a much better video camera (i just bought one in Jan. before i learned so much.) Really, i am not complaining. I am just voicing what i think is happening among some or many of your customers, according to the forums. I know you have a strategy. And I am not lecturing the keen marketing mind you have, DH, but ALL of us need to be reminded that the customers buy the products. By the way, have you ever considered a discount for the people who buy so much product in a month? Might be worth considering. _____________________________ Paul D, Rainmaker Business Success Enterprises http://www.BusinessSuccessEnterprises.com Bedrock Alliance Group, Inc http://www.BedrockAllianceGroup.com "To Get What We've Never Had, We Must Do What We've Never Done!" Yet again, another juicer thinking out loud.... I don't mind having the ability to download single JDs. JDs are my most used DJ products, and often the volumes contain a number of JDs that I don't have use for. It's like buying a music CD vs downloading the 3 or 4 great songs that you actually listen to .... On the other hand, It would be VERY nice to see some products specifically created for web use. The JDs that I use for the web are way too big and must be scaled down a lot. If some were designed for web use at no more than 150px per inch, and image sizes no larger than say 1300 pixels wide, then the overall file sizes would be much smaller and easier to either package or download. Now, if I were to be so bold as to suggest not only Photoshop JD files, but also Flash .fla files as animated backgrounds, buttons, etc....again just thinking out loud. I have seen requests for web products in these forums, but still no results... Any ideas here? Terry. (in reply to deano2222) |

Terry, When opening a J/D, can't you adjust the size in Photoshop before you do anything else? At least the JDrops would be flexible. I can't tell you the number of times I have found a graphic somewhere and it's not high enough resolution.... Although, offering a JDrop for download that has a lower resolution... and a lower price, might be the ticket. I belong to other services that offer low, medium, high, and ultra high res memberships. _____________________________ dean (in reply to tgd) |
