Hello all

I'm trying my hand at creating some lower thirds, the problem I'm facing is the positioning of the lower third.....
I know I can move the clip around with-in FCE but, Title safe lines would be helpful.

Also , without being able to see the clip this lower third is going over, sizing it can be an issue ...

Is there a tutorial or, just general rules to go by ???

Thanks for any advise

James

There are title safe guides inside FCP both in the viewer and in the canvas windows. Directly under the word Viewer is a set of 3 buttons. The button farthest to the right is a drop down box where you will find title safe guides. Same for the canvas window.

About lower thirds: There are guidelines which tend to be broadcast station specific (i.e. logos and bug position) but generally outside of broadcast, its definitely to taste

Thank you for the reply , I am aware that FC has title safe, I'm just shocked that this is not an option in the Juicer app. When creating a lower third I feel it would be useful for placement purposes.
Lets take LiveType for example , LT has the option to place your movie or clip in the background , this option allows one to see the exact location of the text, over the actual location in will be placed.

I did however find a work around, I create my lower third graphic with Juicer, render and import into LT. LT allows me to place this over the actual movie in the needed location, add my text and I'm in business.

Thanks again

I have mentioned a title safe area in the Juicer a few times before. Maybe with the two of us, we'll wear them down eventually.

You'll have to get behind Bill with is Racing requests.

I think that would be a great addition to Juicer.

I don't understand why I would need a title safe in the juicer. I'm not creating text with final placement, or doing final graphics. I'm converting elements for use in my editing app or in AE or some other application for the final product. For instance the lower thirds I want them to be as large as possible when exporting from the juicer then in my editing app I will scale/position for my text or video to look right. Now Even when the fonts come out I will still be creating them full screen and scaling down inside my editing app. So even if they are outside of title safe or action safe they are still complete and ready for me to place over my video and position correctly.

Rick, you may be right, but I really don't think it would be that difficult to add and if you want to export something from Juicer and not have to play with it in your NLE, for position, that is where it would come in handy.  Definitely the way you do it offers the greatest flexibility.

WOW .... This thread is taking off ....

I'll not dispute that flexibility is needed in our creativity. However , it's not always about flexibility, when simplicity is all that is needed for a specific project.
I'm sure it would be a snap to add title safe lines to Juicer, and just as FC , if you wish not to use it, just click it away ... Title safe lines are a tool used in video editing, if I'm the creator of my project , I should have the option to use such a tool if I wished.
