HELP - I finally shot my big job on friday and all was a success so far. we still have to shoot B roll and all but seeing as how we made it through the rain outdoors and captured some great footage im happy. Heres my issue - I shot the main band with 2 cameras. I know how to make a multiclip in final cut pro the problem is I need to make several multiclips with clip stopping and staring at different times. for the first clip its easy, i use the in points. But then the other video guy (foolishly) turned his camera off as he was switching locations so now i need to sync a third clip with the first two that starts midway. should i somehow combine all the clips together and THEN make it a multiclip?? big time HELP _____________________________ Jason Aron --- My Juice - Click Here Photography, Web Design - Click Here My Music Site (New Songs Posted) |

I am editing with multi-clips right now and I have the same problem. There was a rain delay, so one camera op stopped rolling. I just created a second multi-clip for the second half, and then combined both of them into a new sequence, once all the editing was done. Secondly, I wanted to "tighten" up the timing in editing between the numbers, but to make my life easier in editing, I started by placing the entire sync-ed clips in a multi-clip and editing it straight through. This was my rough cut. I did a second pass, cleaning up the cuts, changing to a different angle if I didn't like what I did the first time, and made sure other cuts happened on music cues. On my 3rd pass, I went through and chopped out the parts that I didn't need. That way, it didn't mess me up for sync-ing reasons. I don't know if this helped or not. Good luck. I re-read what I wrote and I don't know if it was understandable. So, let me try again! ;) I have 2 parts -- before the rain delay... and then after, when camera 3 turned off the camera I have 4 cameras I did part 1 and part 2 as separate multiclips For part 1, all 4 cameras in sync --- I did 3 passes --- the first one, cut live straight through ---- the second pass was for cleaning up timing of the edits/angles and the 3rd pass is when I cut out the parts in the timing that weren't necesary. Then I repeated the process for part 2. I was able to sync all 4 cameras together using a light cue as a new in point. Then, I created a new sequence, combining seq 1 and seq 2 to have the full show. I hoped that one explained it better! _____________________________ ~ Jen DJ Showcase Portfolio (in reply to PIP) |

i wish it were that easy. My problem is I have overlapping clips. this was a live band. I was only allowed 2 cameras so the second camera was rotating between on stage and in the pit. So 1 camera for example has songs 1 & 2 and then cam 2 has part of 1 and picks up in the middle of 2. its a nightmare. On top of it I am mixing the live sound i got with my rode ntg-2 on the camera which was on the jib with the audio i recorded directly from the mixing board into a recorder :(

If that's the case, I wouldn't use the multi-clip edit. I would lay camera 1 on the timeline and then insert edit in shots from camera 2. Since you don't really have any syncing to speak of, I would just insert the best of cam 2, and spend your time making it look the best... use the audio scrubbing and try to use music hits/beats to sync it up the best you can for each clip you want to insert in. I don't think there is a way to use the multi cam edit with that much out of sync stuff. _____________________________ ~ Jen DJ Showcase Portfolio (in reply to playanumber99) |

I understand that you have a clip from CAM_1... Right? And then several clips from CAM_2? Right. CAM_2 started and stopped few times. Right? Ok. Here is what I would do: A) Lay down CAM_1 clip on the timeline. B) Lay down CAM_2 (multiple clips) at the right positions (sync) with black in between. C) I would create (export) a THIRD clip (Lets call it CAM_2_B). D) Create a multiclip with clips CAM_1, CAM_2_B & the audio track. E) Switch (get the right angles) from this newly create multiclip. Voilá! This ways is probably a lot less work. Let us know how it goes... Attachment (1)

quote: ...a lot less work! using the black to help sync is perfect! much easier than having to insert edit each shot from cam 2. _____________________________ ~ Jen DJ Showcase Portfolio (in reply to mediatvguy) |

well i was able to line all all the clips into two tracks as the original idea was suggested. The problem now is i cant render out track 1 and 2 as their own tracks because this is HD footage and the timeline is 36 minutes long. During the render it tells me my hard drive is FULL!! its over 100 gig for these files. UHHHHHH. I wish there was a way to multicam directly from what i have now. Thumbnail Image Attachment (1)

I cut all my wedding videos with multiclip. Whenever my second operator stops recording this is what I do. Make a second multiclip and sync the new clip from camera 2 with the same shot from camera 1. Lay this down after the first multiclip track. In the first multiclip track you will notice that camera 2 goes black but camera 1 keeps playing. Cut to camera 1 and let it keep playing until you get to the point that your second multiclip starts (I often make my scnc points something eay to recognise - a solid beat or a camera flash etc). Stop the first multiclip here and start the new one. If you got the frames exactly right you will notice that it actually gives you the option to "join through edit". This will then make one big clip in the timeline. Sorry if this is confusing, it is easy to show someone on the screen as I'm doing it but trying to type it our isn't so easy.
