In the shadow of several off-beat threads that may even expose Digital Juice to libel/slander issues and potential litigation, it may be time for DJ to designate trusted monitors who have the ability to immediately remove posts or entire threads. While I appreciate each and every post and have great respect for any and all who post with respect, sometimes we (ME included at times) get a bit froggy. In some cases, that frog hops up to -- if not over -- the line of legality. For me, what somebody does outside of these forums should be none of my concern. So long as they act responsibly and share my love of DJ products. Posts here should have bearing on DJ products, DJ services, or discussions of how DJ products might be used in a project (or used better). (Yes, there are forums for open discussion too, which is cool.) Of late, some of these forums have veered away from some of these values to question integrity or involvements outside of these forums. Either these forums have disintegrated into chaotic message boards or we have matured to the point where activities may need to be more closely monitored. IF you don't like somebody, ignoring them, their posts, or their challenges may be the most prudent course of action. Exercise due diligence before hitting the "POST" button. Your posts are launched into the public domain and can be considered in the same vein as a published document. Even if what you say is true, you could be out thousands of dollars in attorney fees and time off work defending yourself without any promise of recovering your losses (which requires yet another legal action). As a former working professional journalist, I implore each of my fellow Juicers to question everything they write and publish here. I am NOT one to favor censorship and each of us has the right to start a website where we can target anyone or anybody or launch any cause. Posting here is not a constitutional right and, in fact, has significant legal ramifications for Digital Juice if certain content is not responsibly monitored. So arguments about censorship are not valid. I believe trusted monitors would not go overboard. I would hate to see DJ get sucked into a lawsuit and have to expend $25,000 in legal fees (or even more if a judgement is made against them). That is $$$ that could have been invested in development of more products. Such a lawsuit could even close these forums forever. Said legal costs and judgements would be passed along to EACH OF US in higher product costs. Or we may not see some products introduced because of the expenses from legal issues. (Come on folks, I am dying here for more print products, and I am thinking THEY would be the first to go!!!) IF you love this place as I do, post with caution. Your comments may be correct, but saying them with malice could prove costly to us all. _____________________________ dean |

Dean you've made it really clear to everyone involved. Hopefully people will heed your words of wisdom. They certainly can never claim ignorance as a defense.

Yes Dean, I couldn't have put your words better myself. As many have often mentioned herein, when several opinions are aired, they sometimes turn an original thread's topic completely off kilter. Yes, we are all adults here in The Juicer Forums and I for one shall think very carefully in the future before hitting the send button. Any one of us can be easily offended by anothers perfectly well intended comments. By no means shall I shy away from voicing my opinion (and hopefully it will always be seen as informative and a positive one), but I am thankful recent posts have been removed, so we may continue to get along with one another and enjoy the reason we come here - for our love of all things Juice. Thank you Dean for your gracious insight. ...and thank you for reading me. Time for my morning cup of tea, methinks... _____________________________ Michael Merchandani the British voice of choice Las Vegas NV USA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Voice Actor - Digital Artist - Media Creator - Audio Master (in reply to deano2222) |
