I've watched the MDTK promo about 10 times now trying to re-create the Photo Montage trick in the end and put a small twist on it. I started off by setting track one as the main track and put all the other tracks as the child. Track one's parent mode was turned to 3D source alpha as were all the rest. I next set keyframes on each of the remainder tracks to set their values to where I wanted them to sit in space. Last I matched the keyframes on track one only flipped the values(IE if the x axis was 300 on track 2 then it was -300 on track 1) so that track one acted as a camera and flew over the remaining tracks. The only part I'm having problems with matching is moving the background with the "camera". I set the background on the last track and then altered it using the pan/crop keyframes. This however didn't match the other movements as much as I'd like to see though? Any idea's on how to match the background more. Here's a short clip on the end example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qlzv13vVAf0 Here's a screenshot on just what I've got set _____________________________ Lee's Showcase |

One way to simulate depth (and parallax with movement) would be to drop the background track back along the Z axis (+ positive values). You could copy and paste your top Parent track's keyframes into the bottom background track (so the motion matches exactly) and then manually go in a set the Z value to 200 (or so). This'll definitely give you an accurate simulated move, but you'll also almost certainly need to re-adjust the scale of the background so it doesn't drift out of the frame (so it's not automatic, but pretty easy - you've already been playing with this so no problem). I was playing with it and it seems like you'll need really high Z axis values to back it up far enough to be interesting. Honestly, your demo doesn't look bad at all and I don't think anyone would look at it and notice you weren't really using a 3D camera.
