I am going to start making Memorial slideshows for a large church. If the people give me the cd with the music they want on the DVD slideshow, can I make copies for them of the DVD with the same music that will be played at the church or will I have to use the Digital Juice music I own for their personal copies?

Lots of previous discussion here concerning copyright, etc. Recommend a search to dig up that info. The bottom line however is that without a synchronization license from the owners of the music (publisher, performer, etc -- Not the person who bought the CD), this would be a violation of copyright.

Just as I thought. So the best thing to do would be to offer copies of the DVDs using the music I own.....Thanks for your reply.

Yes, using the music you own the rights to. You might also check into zoomlicense.com . I haven't done anything with them yet and really can't tell you much about them other than they have been working on setting up licensing for commercial music (primarily to service the wedding industry I think). Check them out. You might get lucky and find the music that your customers want to use (or a version of it). Then you pay a modest fee for the sync rights. The advantage is that it is supposed to be quick because all the 'heavy lifting' has been done by them in advance.

Zoom is a good service, but the library of songs is limited right now. You can find a lot of Motown stuff and a whole bunch of things you haven't heard of before, but they are adding things all the time and hopefully someday you will be able to find most anything. While it is against copyrights to use the music, the chances of getting caught are minimal. I'm not suggesting you do use the music, because that is up to you, but Juice and Triple Scoop Music are very good alternatives. Triple scoop is a little pricey, but they have some really good stuff. You may also want to look at Christian Copyright Solutions. They have been securing rights for contemporary Christian music for limited type use such as this.
