I am using Avid Xpress Pro version 5.2.7 and I cannot import a videotraxx with motion either from the disk, from the Juice, various settings without artifact. I have called tech support and they are aware of it but there is no solution. Anyone, please help!

Can you post what export settings you are using from the juicer? We have a few Avid users here that can offer you some assitance but if we can get some export details, we might be able to help you get on the right track.

I have tried 720 x 486 NTSC as well as 720 x 480. Quicktime with animation codec, avid DV codec, 29.97. I have also tried image sequence, Targa, PNG, Photoshop, JPEG, Tiff and uncompressed AVI. Tech support is aware of the problem and instructed me to render the quicktime file in progressive which is not an option in Avid. Thanks!

I have tried 720 x 486 NTSC 29.97, 720 x 480 quictime with the Avid DV codec, animation codec, image sequence with targa, photoshop, PNG and uncompressed AVI as well as importing directly from the disk. All of this with lower field. My Avid import settings have been the same for several years now with is: Maintain square for aspect ratio, field order non interlaced, RGB color levels, invert existing alpha. I have also tried exporting from the juicer and importing into Avid with the odd field and even field. Same artifacts exist. I can see the artifacts if I import the video with movement straight from the DVD into quicktime.

I have found a solution to my problem. I export from the juicer at 720 x 576 Pal, scale and center and it is perfect when I import it into Avid with the settings in my post above. It works for me but obviously, there is a problem with NTSC Videotraxx2 with motion. My projects are 30i NTSC. Doawah, thanks for your help.

I didn't really do anything but i'm glad you found a solution and thanks for posting it. Fred, one our regulars is an Avid user. He might be able to add something additional to this that might explain it.

quote: Did you set your Avid import field order to match the file? Mismatched field order leads to strange artifacts such as stutter. _____________________________ Michael Lt. Cmdr. Yes, I checked the export settings from the juicer and my Avid import settings. My avid settings are always on even or lower field. The juicer default setting is lower field. I have checked everything I could possibly check and exporting it with pal settings and lower field is the only way that I can use the video off of Videotraxx2. Again, thanks for the help!

Here's a trick you might like. I import directly from the DVD! My settings to do this are: - Maintain and Resize, square - 601/709 - Non-interlaced - invert Existing One less program to deal with! (in reply to video652) |

That works good if you work in NTSC, if you work in PAL the 30fps clips are slowed down. However, many clips are interlaced so I'd check that before using the "Non-Interlaced" option. As VideoTraxx do not have alpha channels you can select "Ignore".
