Nice! It has been reworked to say PRODUCTS instead of Video, Presentations., etc. Very nice and useful... Keep up the good work! However, you might want to take out the ALT TEXT tag since it gets in the way... $0.02 < Message edited by mediatvguy -- 7/18/2006 1:52:25 PM > _____________________________ Work: Mac OS-X/10.4.11 Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 2 GB SDRAM (2) 500GB HDD GeForce 6600 - 256MB Home: iMac OS-X/10.4.11 Intel 2.0 Core Duo 2 GB DRAM 1- 250GB HDD 1 - 1 TB (Lacie Ext. dropped the alt text.. it will work in around 50% of browsers. Please let me know if you notice it acting up. Reduced browsers will see only video products, print products, presentation products links. _____________________________ JP Shook Director of Internet Development Digital Juice, Inc. While in this subject, makes no sense to have a HOME link on the home page.... I disagree David... A HOME link on a home page is confusing to users as explained by usabilty guru Jakob Nielsen on his home page usability book < Message edited by mediatvguy -- 7/18/2006 12:26:49 PM > _____________________________ Work: Mac OS-X/10.4.11 Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 2 GB SDRAM (2) 500GB HDD GeForce 6600 - 256MB Home: iMac OS-X/10.4.11 Intel 2.0 Core Duo 2 GB DRAM 1- 250GB HDD 1 - 1 TB (Lacie Ext. IMHO, changing the site navigation based on what page you are on can potentially confuse users. While I agree with many things that Jakob Nielsen says, he is a bit fanatical and has continued to change his recommendations over the years. All in all, our goal is to give the user what they expect and are used to for other sites that they visit. (in reply to mediatvguy) |

JP, I agree that Nielsen can be a little fanatical sometimes but when it comes to this simple detail I think he is right. Why would you want to have a link to the home page when you are on the homepage? And what I'm talking about is not changing the navigation but just remove the HOME link from the homepage. _____________________________ Work: Mac OS-X/10.4.11 Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 2 GB SDRAM (2) 500GB HDD GeForce 6600 - 256MB Home: iMac OS-X/10.4.11 Intel 2.0 Core Duo 2 GB DRAM 1- 250GB HDD 1 - 1 TB (Lacie Ext. So if he does that to the home page he might as well take out the Contact link on the contact page, the Support link on the support page,... etc. I think its better to keep things uniform than to saticify political correctness (not sure if that is the correct term). < Message edited by MrENGLISHâ„¢ -- 7/18/2006 1:00:41 PM > _____________________________ this message was brought to you by MrE™ WARNING: may contain Sarcasm and/or Bad Spelling (in reply to mediatvguy) |

Jose, if that was the case, then I would have to remove the forums link from the forums page, the support link from the support page, etc, etc. Having a standard and sitewide nav is more important IMHO. MrE, thanks for your feedback. I will pass it on to my JavaScript gurus to check out. Btw, did I hear you say IE on Mac?! I can't even believe you have that installed! You guys have a point there. However, I would only apply this exception to the home page, IMHO. Simply because it is the most important page on the entire website.

As far as the 'HOME' link on the home page, 'FORUM' link on the forum page, etc., on sites that I have designed I generally leave the link image there as a place holder only and remove its functionality. That way the menu's are consistant but the user knows he/she is at the home or forum because the button is inactive. john + $0.02 _____________________________ J2D:184 JB 1-38 JBHD 1-20 ETK 1-10 MDE 1-20 SW 1-10 VT 1-3 SFX 1-2 ST 1-21 BT 1-2 JD 1-52 DJTV S1 PTK 1 DJ 2.0 Swigglez (in reply to mediatvguy) |

Yeah, I design sites the way John does. The button or associated graphic is still there, but the functionality is removed...and generally, the graphic changes to reflect the location (a highlight, color change, etc.). (in reply to John Carothers) |

As of now, 5:10 pm, it works great for me on Safari. I like it. Also, I like having the page links the same on every page. In the past, I've been on a home page, but clicked on the "home" page link, just to make sure it WAS the home page. imho, keep it consistent, and simple, for us less competent with the internet. Thanks (in reply to mediatvguy) |

a couple of times in ie7.0 beta I noticed that the pop out did not disappear when moving away from it. I had to click somewhere on the page to get it to minimize.

Yeah, we are still working on that. Since we have to account for all browsers, it is exchanging the old version with the new. Give us a week or so and it will be ship-shape. We have done some tweaks for the regular menu (not on forums) and I will update the forum menu today. Anyone having camino, safari, or other mac browsers (except IE) take a look at homepage and see if the same problems are still happening. Yeah the countdown for the product amounts left on the deals of the week/month also dont show the same number each time. I can do a refresh and one time it will be 734 left, and then next time 795 or 640. Eventually it will come back around to the original number after a few refreshes, but it seems to vary from each visit to the page. < Message edited by JWirx -- 7/20/2006 1:29:48 PM > _____________________________

Hmm.. very strange. I prefer server-side only scripting as it will always look the same no matter what browser/OS. When you start mixing flash and javascript together it becomes very hard to troubleshoot... we'll keep plugging away at it. (in reply to JasonGaines) |
