Hello Folks, Can any of you web design folk help with this? I'm using PS CS3 What is the best Color Setting Preset to use in Web Design work, mostly just JPEGS and PNG's. Is it Adobe (RGB) 1998? Or is there a better "custom" setting to avoid image color changes when importing into the "Working Document/Template"? I'm finding that working for clients in RGB and CMYK has its drawback when taking their designs into WEB designs. I'd recommend the basic setting -- sRGB. This is the most basic color space (smallest gamut) that all monitors should support. Adobe RGB, pro RGB, and the others have a much wider color gamut and to actually see all the colors in the color space, you need a monitor that supports those wider color gamuts. They may be suitable in some printing environments but not for web design. A web design produced in adobe RGB may exhibit color shifting when viewed on a monitor that is incapable of producing the same color gamut. Another reason -- 90% (or more) of the jpegs you receive from your clients will all be in the sRGB color space. Taking them into a wider color space offers no advantages in this case. Final recommendation -- if not already, calibrate your monitor and keep it calibrated so you know that the colors you see on your monitor are the 'correct' colors. quote: This makes sense when going from cymk to rgb -- they are very different color systems. I wouldn't think the RGB would be different at all unless you are going between do different flavors of RGB (sRGB, adobe, etc). Color changes are the result of your computer's attempt to reproduce the color as closely as possible to the input. If it can't match the color it picks the closest color it can reproduce. Hope that helps some. _____________________________ Sam (in reply to boyler65) |

What Sam Said. :) If you're going to try to use 'web safe' palettes (I personally don't see a need for that anymore) then you should likely put your image mode to Indexed color and work from there to begin with. Images don't generally gracefully dither from a full RGB mode to my satisfaction. But then again, I'm not a huge fan of the web-safe palette to begin with anymore. With the images which are not acting satisfactorily, what method are you using to go from Photoshop to a web site, Paul? deb _____________________________ SouthPoint Foursquare Church Fresno, CA BlogMe (in reply to boyler65) |
