It looks like we have a new AVID product on the horizon, Avid Studio. It is a new product and has many features of Liquid. Lew, moderator on the Avid/Pinnacle Liquid Forums, has a copy and he is pleasantly surprised.

Unlike Pinnacle Studio, Avid Studio has unlimited audio/video tracks.

I hope we can form a critical mass of Avid Studio users and qualify for our forum here at Digital Juice.

My upgrade costs $99. The complete package retails for $169.

Please visit the Avid site for details. I am not in sales.

Jim,
Did you upgrade from Liquid 7 or Pinnacle Studio?

I have both Liquid and Pinnacle Studio.  When the Avid Studio asked for a qualifying product installation disk, I grabbed the Studio 14 disk. It installed painlessly.

I am going through the manual now and will post  my observations later.

Hi windhamjim,

any idea if swipes from juicer3 will work in AVID Studio?
If yes, I'll order AVID Studio instantly! :-)

Kind regards
Thomas

Single alpha swipes will work.  I have not tried the double alpha swipes yet.  I will give it a test tonight.  Good question Tom.

Regular swipes work great. The double alpha channel swipes cause a problem. The swipe itself works okay. The separate alpha channel sitting on a track of its own doesn't do the job.

I've posted a question on the Avid Studio forum at pinnaclesys.com about matte tracks. When I get an answer I'll post it here.

BTW, Avid Studio honors alpha channels on AVI files. No more rendering a targa sequence for me.

Good morning Jim,

thanks for the tests! It sounds great that AVID Studio works now with alpha channels on AVI! One big step forward from Pinnacle Studio!

I've downloaded AVID Studio now and i'm impressed. Specially the medialibrary looks great.
I'll playing around with Studio this weekend and will post a small review here.

Kind regards
Thomas

Avid Studio does NOT support matte tracks.  This makes the rendered double alpha channel output useless.

Files with alpha channels will work. Files used on a matte track as a mask are useless in Avid Studio.

I will try using the AS title editor to see if there is a workaround.

Maybe matte tracks will show up in a future release.

I have Avid Studio and I just received Compositors Toolkit 2 and 10 Editors Themekits in the mail. I haven't opened them yet. What features of these products will work with Avid Studio?
