NOTE: Please read my second post here about the truth in that you can use ALSO another Nvidia Geforce card to get similar result instead of buying a expensive Quadro card. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- For using the great Digital Juice products on the Adobe software, I am wondering how important is the quality and model of Graphics Card to be able to use the Adobe software in the most efficient and speedier way, and so the render times could be lower. I thought that the most important thing to be able to get the best speed was to have a new powerful CPU but did not think that the graphic card was very important too. Do you truly and really need to have a Nvidia Quadro to get the most out of Adobe Software to use the Digital Juice products ? I have just seen that Nvidia have updated their website to show the new Nvidia Quadro Graphics Cards and drivers specially made for the new After Effects CS5.5 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 http://www.nvidia.com/object/builtforadobepros.html quote: I am using a Nvidia Geforce 9600GT 1GB DDR3 RAM with an AMD QuadCore AMD Athlon X4 640 3.0 GHz and 8 GB RAM DDR3 1333. And only in my dreams could be done anything in realtime and is really very slow to preview and do anything, and much more time is needed to render that it takes about an hour and a half for 2 minutes in AE. Is this a marketing hype and you would really need one of the best Nvidia quadro cards and REALLY VERY expensive (more than 3000$) to really have the real time that they say here ? or will be also possible with the basic model of Quadro that cost about 200$ or 250$? Of course if think that if I buy this GPU Quadro Card ALONE probably will not get much better speed if I still keep my AMD X4, and I should upgrade also my CPU to a much better and newer like for example the Intel i7 2600. Thanks for your help Here i put more information from the Nvidia website http://www.nvidia.com/object/adobe_AftereffectsCS5.html quote: And also about Adobe Premiere http://www.nvidia.com/object/adobe_PremiereproCS5.html quote: < Message edited by SpaceRay -- 7/6/2011 12:30:22 AM > |

I have been searching for the real truth, and to know if all this is really a marketing hype and it is exaggerated, or it is really true and for getting the maximum perfomance you need to spend a lot of money in a advanced Quadro Card. Well if you can afford it, there is nothing wrong in it and is true that the Quadro accelerates very much the workflow, BUT they are NOT the only cards that can be use to get the same effect, as some of the newer Geforce can ALSO be used and are cheaper. Well, after many websites I have found it seems that at least for After Effects and Premiere Pro, this is not totally true, I mean that, is not really needed to buy a Nvidia QUADRO to get benefit of the OpenGL and CUDA acceleration built in this software. They want that you believe is true so you pay them more money for the cards "as a professional" but there are tests that shows that you can get similar results and get the speed boost and real time preview and probably render too, with a normal Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 or GTX 570 wich is cheaper and more powerful than the Quadro. Well, to get this benefit, you have to change something in the compatible cards preference and so you need to unlock what is hidden and forcing you to buy a Quadro. See this NVidia CUDA Performance Adobe CS5 Premiere and After Effects http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg63QeaIPQY Official NVidia CUDA Unlock for Premiere Pro CS5 & CS5.5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL3NaSYU16w Unlock Premiere Pro CS5 so the Mercury Playback Engine can use the GPU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M_5pyYEflA And there are many more links of similar videos in the right side I THINK THAT THERE IS NOTHING ILEGAL AND FORBIDDEN IN THIS, AS YOU JUST CHANGE THE SUPPORTING CARDS THAT THE SOFTWARE IS ABLE TO RECOGNISE AND USE. quote: I have seen that the best and cheaper option to get the best permonance in a cheap ay is to buy the newer QUADRO 400 or even better QUADRO 600 which are around 200$ The Quadro card is not only for ADOBE, as you can use it many other professional software, and for some 3D Software and special CAD software the drivers and plugin seems to work better withe the Quadro than newest Geforce. < Message edited by SpaceRay -- 7/6/2011 12:35:12 AM > (in reply to SpaceRay) |

Unfortunately I'm on a laptop (MacBook Pro 17") as my primary computer. I needed the portability. BUT, I'm giving up the ability to upgrade parts like the graphics card. So I'm stuck with a ATI card and can't take advantage of the CUDA technology. Sucks for me! However, maybe in the future, more external GPU's will be possible through thunderbolt, like in this article: http://www.macrumors.com/2011/06/27/example-of-an-external-dock-and-gpu-over-thunderbolt-technology/ Perhaps then I will be able to enjoy that Mercury Pro Engine for Premiere Pro!! Edit: To clarify, I know the external GPU in the article is also AMD/ATI, but hopefully nVidia can do the same thing so I can use CUDA acceleration on my laptop < Message edited by Byron425 -- 7/6/2011 5:46:21 PM > (in reply to dasmith) |
