What's the status on the backorder of Juice Drop Collection vol. 3. I don't mind waiting, but the web page still says "We have sold out but we will honor the price and fulfill anyback order placed by midnight tonight." It's been that way for a week. No problem waiting, just wondering about the time table and when I can get to putting volume 3 to work.

We over sold by about 250 units so I had to reorder 500 more even though I had planned to retire it (and still plan to) The units should be in stock by next week sometime, sorry for the delay.

Sadly Deb, it doesn't sound promising for any more boxed products. It is pretty clear that DJ is moving to digital downloads only. Rather than sell us a package for $250+ and include scores of files we will likely never use, we can pay $5-$10 a pop for the 5 or 6 that we will use, as we need them, when we need them.

Okay I admit that I am being a bit sarcastic in my observation, but I do so to make a point. While DJ will eliminate the overhead of producing DVDs, packages, etc, also possibly being eliminated are sales opportunities. Selling 200 units for $250 each will make way more money than selling 300 units at $10. The digital download concept works for some sales... but I still submit that there may be room for profit in boxed sets as well.

Just some thoughts. IF boxed products are not selling, that's one thing... but to oversell by 250 units is a pretty big money maker, given the packaging and designing and all are done... not to mention the other 250 units that will remain for future sales... and not to mention the sales of the product already. And the packaging, while VERY cool, may not really be necessary. The contents are what we seek, crave, desire.

Intro pricing is well conceived, but after the intro of a few weeks, raise the price and keep it there for others who did not jump on an opportunity. To buy something and pay a reasonable price, only to see it at a firesale a few months later may not be a good marketing concept in the long run. Yeah, I know, I got to use the stuff when it was fresh and new... BUT, from recent strategy, one may wait to pull the buy trigger thinking it will be sold at "clearance" for a fraction in a few months...

Just some rambling thoughts of a marketing pro late at night after a very long day. I DO think boxed collections may still be viable in the long haul.

Early adopters generally always end up paying more. That's true for just about any time of product not just here.

Yep, I agree Jon. And of late, I realize buying immediately has its financial disadvantage knowing that eventual sales will be offered.. usually those sales are a year down the road.. most recently, the clearance was only months. I do like getting the new products immediately, as I can use a few of them. Yet, I fear the move to very quickly reduce prices may make some hesitant to purchase.

Case in point: Buying each of the Canvas downloads immediately upon release yields three $40 sales. Holding back and buying three at the same time produces a $25 gift certificate under the ongoing special. It really underscores the thought that a potential customer should wait to buy to get the best deal. No worry, $25 isn't going to make or break anyone, but it is nice to get a discount in today's economy.

Deb is among many of us avid DJ enthusiasts who are passionate about our physical products. I have lamented in these forums about the move to strictly digital downloads and submit the argument that some collections might yield a higher return if continued to be offered on discs. DJ is spending a bundle on developing JuicyWorld. If we can avoid spending a hunk of change for a package in favor of a few pennies for ONLY the files we immediately need via download, there could be a significant cash flow issue for DJ. Ultimately it is not my business and I don't think David will want to chime in here, but surely he has projected the what-ifs... and feels download only is the ultimate business model.

I join with Deb in suggesting that boxed sets for the mainstays of DJ be continued, even if the packages are not as upscale as in the past. But will be happy to do the occasional download of a few files only when I need them. I will always support DJ in all it does.

We're working hard on a way to streamline and make Layered Download Paks possible. Right now the files are so big that it wouldn't be "fun" to download for instance "layered canvases". One set of Layered Canvas PSDs would be 400 meg..multiply that by 40 for a full pak and you got a huge download on your hand.

But thankfully we already knew this would be the case and earlier in the year developed some ways around this problem. So hopefully in another month or so I'll have good news to report.

OK, Digital ones I can deal with, I suppose. Although I have Canvases, they are nowhere near as useful as JuiceDrops.

But ... when my computer crashes and I lose them, I'm not going to be a happy camper.  Are we going to be able to re-download if we need to?

These JD Collections were spectacular.

Deb, immediately upon downloading, you should burn a CD or DVD of the files. Then treat those discs as your originals. I make two copies and store one off site as my safety copy.

"Should" I know ... I know. But I'm still wondering if I can re-download next year when my hard drive crashes (again).

Our current plan allows a certain amount of re-downloading.. We will put some sort of preventive measures from someone downloading hundreds of times from different IPs. Even now you can redownload from your accounts page.
