For all the StackTraxx volumes I have purchased, I have used the Juicer to render all the individual layers of all the different cuts to my large external hard drive. This way, when I'm working on a project and I want to use a StackTraxx cut, I already have the .WAV files rendered to my hard disk. Also, I don't have to worry about whether the StackTraxx DVD might become unreadable over time (I've had some problems with reading DJ DVD discs in the past), because I've already rendered all the WAV layers for all the cuts. Anyway, here is my question. Does anyone know the native audio settings of the cuts on the StackTraxx volumes? I watched the DJTV StackTraxx/Juicer training video by Eric Franks. In that video (which is a little old - it was released in Nov. 2007), Eric casually mentions at one point that the native audio settings of the StackTraxx cuts is 44.1kHz/16bits. However, when rendering from StackTraxx, the Juicer lets me pick audio settings up to 96kHz/24bits. I would like to render my .WAV files in whatever the native StackTraxx audio format is. I'd rather not render at 96kHz/24bits if the native recording is at 44.1kHz/16bits, because I'll be using lots of extra disk space needlessly - the Juicer will just be "upsampling" the native 44.1kHz/16bits to 96kHz/24bits, which my NLE and audio editing software can do on its own when I actually use the tracks. On the other hand, if the native recording format of StackTraxx cuts is 96kHz/24bits, I'd love to grab that extra audio fidelity, for when I'm editing high-end video productions where I want to preserve all the original audio fidelity that I can. NOTE: In his similar video for SoundFX, also released in Nov. 2007, Eric Franks specifically says that the native audio format for the cuts on the SoundFX volumes is 96kHz/24bits, and he encourages you to use that high-fidelity setting when rendering from the Juicer if you need top-quality audio for SoundFX. So, it would appear that the native audio quality on StackTraxx is 44.1kHz/16bits, whereas the native audio quality on SoundFX is 96kHz/24bits. If so, this is totally fine. In which case, when I have been archiving all of my StackTraxx cuts to my large external hard drive using 44.1kHz/16bits in the Juicer, I have been using the full native audio quality. But if the StackTraxx cuts are actually natively recorded at 96kHz/24bits, I would like to re-archive my StackTraxx cuts at the higher fidelity, to capture all the original fidelity of the StackTraxx. So, does anyone happen to know what the native audio quality of the StackTraxx cuts is? Was Eric correct when he said that the StackTraxx are natively recorded at 44.1kHz/16bits, whereas SoundFX are natively recorded at 96kHz/24bits? Thanks so much for your help! |

For those who might find this thread later: I got my answer via email today from Jeff Earley of Digital Juice: "Stacktraxx were all recorded natively at 16-bits/44.1khz. Making the settings higher for Stacktraxx only resamples them and does not increase the fidelity." ...which is exactly what I needed to know. (Thanks, Jeff!) (in reply to rforgaard) |
