Hello! I too use Vegas Video. I started using this awesome software since the days of Sonic Foundry. I am new to Digital Juice products. One thing I have to say. Digital Juice, you are awesome! I received my first order of Juice Drops (From a great special you had). I have to say that I am very pleased with the packaging of the items. I love the way there is small thumbnails of all the graphics on the outside of the sleeve and a bigger thumbnail card on the inside. A lot of work went into designing something like this and I love it. I hope you continue to keep this design. The library I have is fitting quite nicely on my shelf. I hope to get more products with the specials you run. My Spec's: Windows 98se, Pentium III, 1 gig Ram, 2- 40 Gig Harddrives, ATI Radeon AGP Video card with 256mb ram. Adaptec 2940UW Scsi, Sound Blaster Live 5.1 audio card, Firewire 3 port card,Scsi CDRW Burner, NEC DVD Burner. I use Vegas 4, Sound Forge 6, ACID 3 & 4, Batch Converter I hope to figure out how to use Digital Juice when I receive my Halloween special of JBs soon. So far I'm loving everthing about this great place. Free Magazine, Great offers! Keep them coming. < Message edited by FixitMad -- 9/29/2006 1:18:38 PM > _____________________________ ------------------------ François When you see the Red X, you know you are lost! Hi Fixitmad, Welcome to the forums. Glad to hear you are enjoying your new products, and you are going to love jumpbacks. Editors Toolkits are GREAT too you may want to look into thoose. I also love the packaging and think that our current packaging is the best we have had. I'm glad they fit nicely on your shelf, I just hope it's a big shelf because you will probably get addicted to Juice like all of us and you will want it all. Again welcome to the forums, and have fun looking around, there's a lot of great stuff here, and if you have questions let us know, we are here to help. _____________________________ mattjanowsky.com (in reply to FixitMad) |

Wasn't sure if you meant DJ tutorials when you said you watched them... have you seen this one? Or this one? The other big gotcha that hangs up most new users is that Alpha Channels aren't automatically recognized by Vegas. This problem can be solved by: After putting the clip in the Vegas timeline, right click on it, select Properties, the Media Tab, and then select either Straight Unmatted or Premultipled Dirty for the Alpha Channel and the jagged/hard edges go away If I'm totally missing your question, please provide a bit more detail and someone will be sure and help out. EDIT: Total lack of manners on my part Welcome to the forums Michael

In addition to a bunch of people here that are ready to help... I wanted to mention a pretty cool training source. Lynda.com offers an Online Training Library subscription service and recently added Vegas 6 Essential Training (also available on disc). Subscription prices are really quite good and you get access to all the titles in their library (which they are pretty good about adding to each year). A good book to consider would be Vegas 6 Editing Workshop by Douglas Spotted Eagle. HTH (in reply to Matt) |

Soft Edges? How do I get soft edges when I use a matte, background and video footage? The overall segment or clip is pretty cool, I just cannot seem to soften up the edges where the footage meets the mask/backgroud, any ideas?

Hey Michael Have you tried this? It should clear your problems up right away... After putting the clip in the Vegas timeline, right click on it, select Properties, the Media Tab, and then select either Straight Unmatted or Premultipled Dirty for the Alpha Channel and the jagged/hard edges go away Just curious, are you pulling straight off the disc into Vegas or going through the Juicer? Yes, I have set the pre-mul-dirty....straight from disc......I guess its more a a blending problem that would better describe what Im after...does vegas have a seperate "blend" or just what may be in a given effect?

Don't shoot me... I promise we'll figure this out But if you could check your settings per the suggestion below, we might be getting closer to what you need. To deinterlace your footage in Vegas, change the project video properties' (Click on File > Properties) field-order to None (Progressive). For the Deinterlace Method, you have two choices Blend Fields and Interpolate Fields. - Interpolate Fields gives a sharper result, but may result in unwanted artifacts. - Blend Fields is softer but may look better. Try both with your preview window set to at least Good quality and see which looks the best to you. To Render to progressive mode, make sure that the field order in the template you select is set to None (progressive). Julie (in reply to overwhelmed) |

Here is another thought... If the matte is black and white, you will get "Hard" edges as the video will basically show or not show If the matte has a gradient i.e., shows shades of gray, your video will be "Softer" and appear to blend

If you can post a screen shot. If you are sufferiing from hard edges so to speak like what example 1 in Julies post will give you, try adding a blur to the matt. this will remove those hard edges somewhat.

That thought occurred to me at 4:34am this morning - woke me up in an oh duh you're making it too hard Jules kind of way - sorry about that Don't worry about getting lost - someone here will help you find your way. I think you'll find this forum is quite refreshing in that you don't get your head bit off for asking questions so pop in anytime. Vegas user here also....I use Vegas 6 right now. Yes, the titler is kind of lame, but I do most of my titling work in Swish and then import it into Vegas. I only use the Vegas titler for intros to music video....because it is kind of standard to have that basic MTV titler look before the music video starts....kind of lame, but very legible and gets the point across clearly. I love using Vegas because I prefer visual interfaces over technical ones. Vegas is very user-friendly and I use it constantly to work on music videos. Yes, I think Canopus is the best card for Vegas, and Pinnacle is good for AOL-type interface users....very graphical.....but the program really annoys me and doesn't give me much control. I was using a capture card, but since i got a new computer, I simply use the Firewire for capturing and it works fine. _____________________________ www.JGJMedia.com Jerry@JGJMedia.com www.Lthrboots.com Jerry@Lthrboots.com www.JerryGJones.com Jerry@JerryGJones.com -------------------------------------- (in reply to Obsedion) |

I too am now using 6.0 and am toying with the program trying to learn all that I can. I'm messing around with the programs daily to see what is possible with the program. I went to school for Video production back in the linear editing days and got out of the field due to a better job offer in a different field. Now with a new baby on the way, and a my job offering me lots of free time I'm wanting to again to do some work on the side for fun, and to make a few extra bucks. I'm finding that using DJ has already allowed me to make my video's look a lot more professional even though I have no idea what I'm doing yet. I'm glad I found this forum that seems to be very "family" like in nature, and is quick to help. Trust me, I'll be reading this a TON over the next few months. (in reply to Obsedion) |

Trust me.....you don't want me to post all the questions I've got. Heck, I doubt that you'd want to even hear half of the ones. I was thinking just last night, I finished school in 1997, at that time the school I went to had one of the few non-linier editing systems in the town of Las Vegas. There were fewer than 20 from what I know. We used both an A/B roll system, as well as a cuts only system. Now in really less than ten years, I can't picture anybody using a linier editing system and you're really able to produce very high quality videos from your home PC for a very reasonable price. Hello to all from the land of tall corn, John Deere tractors and pigs, I have been using Vegas 6 for a couple of years now. I am an avid amateur or as my wife says a rabid amateur. I used to shoot and edit with a professor from the local State University, well that was in the mid 90’s. Back then I was using the FAST Hybrid system with its Dual DVR card, kind of neat for early digital work. Anyone remember that system? Got out of editing for about 8 years and then BAMM! Just like a reoccurrence of Malaria it hit me again. Could not believe how much prices came down. Looked around at editing systems and a good friend from Chicago had me look into Vegas 5. Been hooked every since. Just last year I got this magazine from Digital Juice. Don’t remember asking for it, but when I read its great articles I thought well maybe this is something I should try. Glad I did! I immediately bought ETK 10. WOW!!!! I then bought ETK 1 and 2. Zowey!!! 1 SFX library, 4 Staxx, 2 Jump Backs, 1 MDE and just recently Video Traxx vol. 1. Cannot wait for those! Just last night I finished up a DVD of our good friends 25th wedding anniversary. Used some tips and tricks found in the DJTV series and it worked great. Why even my wife was impressed and that says something. I just want to say that while I am new to the forums here at DJ I feel very comfortable talking with people who have a like interest in not only video, but making video be expressive, video that captures the attention of those who watch us spin our stories and make them more colorful and pleasing to the eye. That’s the Juice difference! I first saw juice at a trade show then a friend gave me a vhs tape with juice on it, I then got a demo cd from juice with a sample on it, then I bought my first product and became addicted like everyone else. I got into film and video my first year of college, I worked on a friends film and got hooked, changed my major and got a film degree the rest is history. Now it's your turn to tell us about you, you can do that here, you can also read about everyone else. Enjoy _____________________________ mattjanowsky.com (in reply to onefastsnail) |

Hi Matt, I just wanted to jump in here and tell y'all a little about me. I got hooked on DJ Jumpbacks 3 years ago when I was still using my "Video Explosion" program from Nova Development...my first NLE. When I found out that VE was based on the Vegas engine, I had to get the real deal because my projects were getting a bit more involved than what VE could handle. My first DJ jumpacks I purchased on ebay...the older sets on CD. I did a wedding using JB4 and impressed my clients. I was hooked! Now I've got Editor's Toolkit 1&2, JB's 4, 6, 28, 32, MDE Revealers, and the Christmas Juice Drops. Next year...i'll invest some more (because Santa can only bring so much). So that's just a little about me. Hope to stay in contact with you guys. I'm way down in South Louisiana, but unless another hurricane blows us away...I'll be in touch. Kevin (in reply to Matt) |

Hi. I'm Jeffrey P. Fisher and I've been using Vegas since version one (it was only an audio app then). I love it for many reasons. Fast. Easy to teach. Powerful. Integrated audio. Scripts to speed tasks. It's part of my daily professional life. I can't wait to help out on the forums. Jeffrey, awesome to have you on the forums here. I am sure anyone could use your expertise, not only in the Vegas side, but those with Vegas will be thrilled to see you are here. Also, I just noticed in my Videomaker magazine that I happend to be reading tonight, that you do VAST training as well. Very cool. I am sure you do a lot more than that, but thought it would be cool to mention that. Welcome again. < Message edited by JasonGaines -- 1/14/2007 2:42:56 AM > _____________________________
