Quick poll just wondering what version of Final Cut do you use? If you have FCP 4.5 DVDSP3 and Motion1 then select Production suite _____________________________ DAVE |

Thanks to Dave, and after this project I'll be at 5.1. I hope this will solve some problems that I've been having.

I'll probably upgrade at the next release. Usually that's in the winter or at NAB in April. I don't feel comfortable upgrading during racing (work) season. Off season is when I get to play. _____________________________ Pops (in reply to David Slater) |

I have to say that I'm not to happy with my recent upgrade to 5.1. It's been very glitchy in the timeline. Never did that before with 5.0....

That's all I needed to hear. I can't deal with that stuff on deadlines. Especially when I have no idea what I'm doing!

it is never smart to upgrade mid project/mid season (unless that would fix a problem you might be running into) I would have to say tho that for me 5.1 has been VERY stable _____________________________ DAVE (in reply to wizard) |

I didn't upgrade during a project. My timeline is spliting in the middle... literally breaking it into 3 sections. Doesn't happen every time. Only thing that fixes it is to hide FCP and then show it again. Next time it happens I'll post a screenshot. _____________________________ this message was brought to you by MrE™ WARNING: may contain Sarcasm and/or Bad Spelling (in reply to David Slater) |

If it is a general problem, I'm sure Apple will fix it. They've been good about that. But, I'll still wait for the off season. Plus, that's when I get to play with my toys - Juice and all! Damn typos.

I have seen nothing about this on the main Apple discussions (and trust me that would be HUGE news) nor on the L4 private email list I am on but I will ask them and see what I can find out _____________________________ DAVE (in reply to wizard) |

could it be a RAM issue? what are you running it on? We are running 5.0.4 here (at work) on G5 imacs (2ghz) with 1gb ram (only 1 machine is the intel)....our crossgrade discs shgould be here in a week or so, so I'll look out for that glitch. I'm looking to purchase either a MacPro or the intel imac, plan on loading it up as much as I can with ram... _____________________________ John Schu Circle 3 Design www.circle3design.net ETK2 ETK6 PTK HD JB 1-10 Backtraxx 2 JD 13,20,22,26,27,30,31,34,35,36,37,38,41,47 (in reply to David Slater) |

Quad 2.5GHz G5 / 2GB ram and the latest versions of FCP & QT. I had 2 Quads connected via AppleTalk, the second Quad was connecting to my ext hdds on first Quad and I think that could have been the issue. I haven't seen the issue since then. < Message edited by MrENGLISHâ„¢ -- 8/31/2006 4:14:52 PM > _____________________________ this message was brought to you by MrE™ WARNING: may contain Sarcasm and/or Bad Spelling (in reply to Circle 3 Design) |

interesting...sounds like an AppleShare glitch. I had a nested sequence that got video plopped in it from another sequence about 75% through a project once.....which I had to go fix and re-render...that sucked. Especially since Magic Bullet effects take FOREVER to render! _____________________________ John Schu Circle 3 Design www.circle3design.net ETK2 ETK6 PTK HD JB 1-10 Backtraxx 2 JD 13,20,22,26,27,30,31,34,35,36,37,38,41,47 (in reply to MrE) |

Dave - I think FCP-HD is 5. I went from 4.5 to HD and I just checked mine and it says 5.0.4.

FCP 4 is FCP 4 FCP 4.5 is FCP HD FCP 5 is FCP 5 (actually isn't anymore it is now FCS) actually looking at her computer specs she has FCP 4.5 (HD) as she is not running Tiger Just so you know Jen if you upgrade to tiger you should upgrade to FCS (best time to do it is before December http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/ you could get FCP 5.1, Motion, STP, DVDSP for $199) _____________________________ DAVE (in reply to wizard) |

Hey thanks for the post, Dave. I just checked it out and found I can upgrade my Final Cut Studio for only $49. Seems like it might be a smart move for me for only $49. Even though my G5 isn't Intel, MrEnglish thought I should upgrade. Do you concur? .

one other thing tho don't upgrade your system if you are 1) ROCK stable 2) not inbetween projects 3) don't have a spare day to reinstall FC 5.0 from your backup IF something goes wrong 4) work with others who are still using FC 5.0 (you can take projects from 5 to 5.1 but not the other way around EASILY) if anything above worries you try installing it on a FW drive to "test" to see if it works for you _____________________________ DAVE (in reply to David Slater) |

Thanks for the tips! With my knowledge, it could be a scary proposition to do it. I think I'll go ahead and order it, but not install till after racing season. It could wind up a winter project. Most 5 minute computer things usually take days of frustration. I've had NO problems with my current set up, but, I'll probably change eventually and this seems the cheapest way to do it. Thanks

I just upgrade to the crossgrade version for Mac, native Intel Dual Core to FCP 5.1.2. The upgrade was $49.00 for FCP, Motion and Studio DVD.

dual intel dual core 3.0ghz, 8gb ram two 23" cinema displays, CS3. and Final Cut Studio 2, 10 tb storage. I love my system! Before I was on a Video toaster (NewTek) Stay away from them... you get a really expensive boat anchor.
