hi, can i suggest a new poll to ask what NLEs people use. I'd like to include Edius Pro 3.6 and V4 as I use 3.6 but the other choices would probably need to include FCP Studio, Avid Xpress, Avid Liquid Pro, Sony Vegas, Premiere Pro etc. Thanks _____________________________ Nigel DJ Products: ETK's: 1,2,4,6,8,10 JB's: 6,8,16,22,34 HD JB's: 1-12,14,15 ST's: 1,2,3,10,12,13,14,15,17,18 SoundFx VT's: 1,2,3 MDE's: 1,2,3,4,5,6,10 JD's : 46,49 |

Windows Movie Maker 2 and so happy I could just shoot myself. :) Yeah right, Premiere Pro 2. Have FCP 5, but dont use it all that much at all, unless I am away from the PC with the MAC. _____________________________

Hhmm, I thought there'd be a real poll but as there's none: Avid XPress Pro and - guess - happy with it.

Thanks everyone, I was kind of hoping for an actual Poll to get a vote count though because if its on the front page of DJ web site then people who dont use the forums much may still vote. I was asking for the poll to help me decide on a new NLE (different thread). I had a demo of FCP studio yesterday at an Apple store and the demo was on a new Mac Pro with twin 30 Inch apple displays and it was awesome. Then I got the guy to calculate the cost of hardware and software and decided a second mortage was out of the question ! for now.

Premiere Pro 2.0 (with the Production Studio). I crossed over from Canopus Storm Edit about 3 years ago.

quote: What price range are you looking to spend, and what type of projects do you anticipate? An iMac with Final Cut Express may handle more than you need, allow you to learn the superior edit style of FCP, and give you an easy upgrade path. PLUS save you thousands of dollars. It sounds like you were shown the ultimate system, but can't spend that much. Just dropping the two 30" monitors to two 21" or 23" would save a ton. Granted, twin 30s are cool, but don't drop down to a PC just because the salesman didn't match your needs to the proper solution. _____________________________ Pops (in reply to nprice) |

I agree. The system you were shown was way over the top for most people. A low end Mac Pro with the 20-23" display suits many, that need internal expandability, just fine. Also the new 24" iMac is plenty fast for those that don't need internal expansion. Extra hard-drives can easily be added externally. And as Bill said, take a look at Final Cut Express. It has many of the features that its big brother FCS has. john _____________________________ J2D:184 JB 1-38 JBHD 1-20 ETK 1-10 MDE 1-20 SW 1-10 VT 1-3 SFX 1-2 ST 1-21 BT 1-2 JD 1-52 DJTV S1 PTK 1 DJ 2.0 Swigglez (in reply to wizard) |

Eric thanks for the poll but what happened to edius 3.x and Edius 4 ? Bill,John I understand what you mean I looked at the 23 inch screens in the shop also, I was just struck by the extra resolution of the 30 Inch and I like cool technology But the cost is a consideration. If I went the Mac route I would want the Studio version because of all whats included especially DVD Studio and Motion etc. I was seduced by the Mac solution but a friend of mine is showing me Avid Liquid Pro soon so I will wait until I have looked at others before I make a decision. _____________________________ Nigel DJ Products: ETK's: 1,2,4,6,8,10 JB's: 6,8,16,22,34 HD JB's: 1-12,14,15 ST's: 1,2,3,10,12,13,14,15,17,18 SoundFx VT's: 1,2,3 MDE's: 1,2,3,4,5,6,10 JD's : 46,49 (in reply to Eric Hartmann) |

That's cool - but make sure you compare what you get - price for price. The twin 30s are GREAT, but don't compare that to a PC with a 17" monitor and think "this is cheaper." There are MANY great solutions to video editing out there, and everyone has their choice as the favorite, but, I still think that if you say "I want to spend $xxxx," then see what you can buy for $xxxx, you will wind up with Apple. imho.
