Hi Folks; Recently moved over to Vegas and loving it....incredibly stable and fairly intuitive once you catch on to the GUI logic...had a hundred little learning curve issues, worked through most of them with tuts, trial and error or posting here. The one remaining, really annoying issue is the preview issue. It appears for no reason to stop preveiwing. The screen goes black. The movie plays fine but it just won't preview. I suspect it may be me and have something to do with the Parent/Child veiw. If I play with it I can sometimes get one line to display or sometimes all the lines back but its really hit and miss. Also does placing the various tracks (marked Video or Video Overlay ) in the non standard sequence have anything to do with my view? I don't believe its a system resource issue, just a user error. Any help would be greatly appreciatied. Thanks Steve _____________________________ HP Media Center 2.8MHZ -2GB RAM Sony Vegas 7 and DVD Architecture "Da Vinci had a Quill" |

Absolutly. Stacking order is very important to enable the correct view. Can you take a snap shot of your timeline and post it so we can see what you are seeing? Also, I assume you are talking about the monitor viewer in the application and not talking about viewing on an external monitor? _____________________________ Graham (in reply to Stephen) |

Steve: You should also try different settings of Preview Quality. I have seen the preview get jumpy and slow when there are a lot of effects. Also, could you please post your system hardware specs too? _____________________________ ConsultingByJeff Jeff Goldberg, MCSE, MCT, A+ VTX HD ETKP 4,11,12,16-20 THM 3-17,25-28,84,106,107 MDE 1-10,16-19,21,26 SWP,JB,JD,ETK,STX,SFX,VTX,PDE:ALL PKO,Canv,TT1-4,JDC1-3 Win7 x64 16GB Core i7 Vegas Pro x64 Canon A1S (in reply to Stephen) |

Also remember to make sure your top video track has the alpha channel turned on. As mentioned in several posts on the Vegas forum, it is off by default, and will not allow lower video to show through the mattes, etc placed above it. This one got me as well. Thank God for these forums! dave _____________________________ Dave Summerson, A+ certified Owner, Summerson Video and Photo Sony Vegas 9, DVDA5 Ultimate S3 ETK 1,2,3,5,7,10 MDE 1 STX 14,15 BTX1 JBHD 11 JB 31 PTK JD3,10 Dell XPS 430 P2.4 Quad Vista64 Home Premium 4GB ram (in reply to jeffcss) |

Hi Folks; Thanks for the quick response. I'm off to the airport right now but will post screenshots and more detailed system specs this weekend. I'm sure its something I'm doing (or not doing) thats causing it. Looking forward to resolving it. Thanks again; -Steve (in reply to summersond) |

Hi Folks; I thought the problem had resolved itself but it showed up again this morning. I load a clip, it plays fine while in the media bin when I place it in the timeline the preview video goes and stays black. I tried to cut and paste a screen shot but for some reason this board doesn't offer me a *paste* option. Its there, I can hear it play fine it just won't display. I'ved moved the clip up and down the line ( Video on Top, Video Overly etc) I just loaded a more white clip and it does appear faintly but seems to have a black overlay on it. Almost like a black mask. So it is displaying but not anything remotely dark. Any rate here's my spec: Vegas 6.0 256 Meg video card HP 2.2 Media Center System 2 GB of Ram Any feedback would be great. I'll be monitoring for responses since I really can't do anything else until I resolve this issue : ) Thanks -Steve (in reply to Stephen) |

Steve, if you place the clip on the top track, what happens? Move the clip in question to a new video track, and move that track to the top as track 1. If you have the properties of the timeline sest to alpha channel (the little cursive a), then it should show fine. It sounds like you have some kind of a mask set on the timeline, or the timeline is a daughter of another one. A screenshot would be great! Any way you could post a link to a website page of yours that may show it? dave _____________________________ Dave Summerson, A+ certified Owner, Summerson Video and Photo Sony Vegas 9, DVDA5 Ultimate S3 ETK 1,2,3,5,7,10 MDE 1 STX 14,15 BTX1 JBHD 11 JB 31 PTK JD3,10 Dell XPS 430 P2.4 Quad Vista64 Home Premium 4GB ram (in reply to Stephen) |

(Use the PostReply button instead of the Fast Reply box at the bottom of the forums and you can attach a picture to your post that way.) I see the problem: Click the Compositing Mode button and change it back to Source Alpha (instead of Multiply (Mask)) - exactly like Dave suggests above. That will change it from "x" to "cc". To get the transparency to work, right-click the clip on the timeline and change it's Alpha Channel properties to "Straight (Unmatted)" Eric < Message edited by D.
