Hi Fokks;

When I upgraded to Vegas 7 I was pleased to see any clip I placed on the timeline now showed thumbnails of the video timelines themselves. A very cool workflow feature. Tonight when I fired it up the thumbnail feature seems to be missing.

I must have inadvertantly turned it off somehow. Can anyone tell me how to enable it again?

Thanks
-steve

Steve:

I am not sure exactly what you are asking, but on the View menu there is a ton of things that can be turned on or off and almost all of them have keyboard shortcuts that you could have typed by accident. I have done this myself many times.

Post back with more info if you need it.

What I can suggest to you it's to try the timeline preferences and then look for the thumbnail option.

Hi Guys;

Thanks for the speedy response. What I mean is when you usually place a clip on the timeline. The clip displays a thumbnail view of the video. Mine did too when I first got it, but for some reason it doesn't anymore. Jeff I've taken your advice and reviewed all the * veiw* options. It did add more info to the track clips but not the thumbnail view.   I think your right though iit is something I turned off.

Pndforchrist can you tell me how to get to the timeline preference option?

try right-click over the timeline (thats what I do in Premiere) and you'll find PREFERENCE.
hopefully it's the same

Any chance you can post a screenshot? I'm still not sure if I'm thinking of the same thing you are.

I tried to upload a picture not sure if it worked.  Any rate you'll see I don't have any thumbnail images on my event timelines just textual data.

I'm still on Version 5 so maybe that's my problem  cause I'm not sure what to tell you

in the lower part of your screenshot are 5 and 6 both audio tracks and the video tracks are below that? The reason I ask is there seems to be a divider below track 6 and the double set of nav controls on the far right

EDIT:  I'm downloading the manual for 7 now and I'll take a quick peek cause now you've got me curious

Hi Jmeridith;

Once again you've come to my aid. Thanks for your time. Just checked my system and it now appears to have resolved itself. I'm not sure if it was something I did or something else (I'm beginning to think perhaps my video card is a llittle dodgy, I'll have to watch that.) either that or the Vegas gremlins became terrified when they realised you were on the case and backed off.  Any rate thanks. If you did find anything in the manual pls share for future reference.

I downloaded it but assumed my problem was just a quck option flick to resolve that any seasoned Vegas user could assist with,  so posted here instead.

Thanks

Except for the part where you are working with someone who still considers herself a rookie... I'm wondering now if you accidentally nested a project (new feature that came in 6) but based on your screenshot, something is definitely funky cause 5 and 6 are audio tracks and the other visible track - the icons don't match the normal order of either a video or audio track

Well, I found this:

CTRL+SHIFT+W will turn off the waveforms and video frame previews. It is under the View menu, Waveforms and frames. That is the only thing I could find that comes close to what you are describing.

Looking at the attachment, I saw that your slider was down so you weren't seeing the top tracks.  I have done this myself.  When you closed and reopened the project, it reset itself to the top track.

Hey Jeff and Sommersond;

You found it Jeff! Thats exactly what I must have had turned off. Not sure what it does other than lose my frame view. One good thing about this is I discovered how to invert my workspace, you would think it would be drag and drop and it is except for the main timeline for that you need to go into preferences. Funny logic by Sony.

Sommersond what is the purpose of the slider?  I would have responded sooner but I have stupid obligation called a job!

Thanks for your efforts.

-Steve

Hey... I don't have this in 5 - I better upgrade in the next couple hours huh?

I do have sliders on the side though... so if you have set your timeline to take up a specific portion of the interface (because you can resize most everything to your liking) and you have more tracks on the timeline than will show at one time, you'd just use the sliders off to the right to move up and down e.g., in your screenshot, there is at least one other track below 6

Hi JMeridith;

So any below the slider won't play. Is that the point of the Slider?

Anything on the timeline will play.  It is like your IE window when it is resized.  You can only see so much at a time, so this gives you the ability to see what part of the timeline window you want to look at.  There is only so much room to display information and the sliders allow you to pan the whole window.
