I have no idea whether this is a DJ problem or what but I'm having trouble with FCE v1 since I installed Juicer 2.

One of the nice people on this forum gave me a copy of FCE v1. I installed it, kicked the tyres etc then put it away. I guess I ran it half a dozen times on a couple of different days.

ETK7 has now arrived so I installed Juicer v2 I already have v3 audio edition installed).

FCE now crashes every single time I launch it It tells me I don't have a firewire camera attached (which I don't), shows me the pallettes and then crashes. I have reinstalled it a couple fo times (and trashed the files from \library\application support too) but it's still no good.

Any ideas? To narrow things down, how do I uninstall Juicer2? Just trash the application? Or are there .plist files somewhere?

I'm on a Mac G5 2.5 DP 4.5 GB RAM running Tiger 10.4.8.

Juicer 2 has no preferences list i dont believe, however, you are using an older version of FCE for one, an illegal copy for two. My suggestion would be to take a look at the crash report and see when the app crashes. Look for duplicate fonts as this can cause issues with programs.

Graham - thanks for the info on the plist.

Just to clarify - yes it's an older version of FCE but it's a pukka version. I have the original disk and serial numbers and the person who sent it me does not have it installed on their machine. I'll try to decifer the crash reports.

Not to worry - I trashed ALL FCE's preferences (in 3 separate locations) and now it launches!

Yeah Graham, I forgot who, but wasnt it someone on the site here Jonathan that gave you that software? I remember someone just recently offering to send out the software for free, as they didnt need it anymore, and it was a legit copy.

Anywho, that is great you were able to get it going. That was the only thing I was going to recommend to make sure all the preferences were trashed, as they have a tendancy to put them in a few places, and any one of them could be the culprit.

Illegal?  That's a little bit of a stretch as a good friend of mine would say...

I was going to suggest that he download the version 1 updates, and any available Mac OS updates. On OS X, it should all be available in the automatic updates configuration, but FCP might have separate files to DL from Apple's website.

Worth checking out in the meantime, before committing more financial resources to upgrading, but I wsecond the vote that the later versions are far better and really good as far as NLE's are concerned. I think FCP is a lot of fun to edit on, but you can spend a lot of time really learning the interface if you want to.

Software updates will update any Apple software that is on the computer. No separate DL required.
