I am trying to make my own jumpback that looks like glitter moving around say like in a glass of water. I have be trying to do this in AE using particle world but I seem to be having little luck. I am wanting to create a wall of glitter that moves and shines like the glitter used in the MDE Frame 0012 Thanks for any ideas, JDL |

JDL: I don't use AE, but a program called Particle Illusion from www.wondertouch.com could do this very easily. You can check it out on their site and they have trial versions. For what you are trying to do you could use the SE version which is only USD $99. _____________________________ ConsultingByJeff Jeff Goldberg, MCSE, MCT, A+ VTX HD ETKP 4,11,12,16-20 THM 3-17,25-28,84,106,107 MDE 1-10,16-19,21,26 SWP,JB,JD,ETK,STX,SFX,VTX,PDE:ALL PKO,Canv,TT1-4,JDC1-3 Win7 x64 16GB Core i7 Vegas Pro x64 Canon A1S (in reply to jeremylee) |

Jeremy, do you have AE7 Pro?? Because I know that particle playground is pretty fun to mess around with...the key is to set up your specs COMPLETELY unique...gravity, spread, size, etc. It will take a lot of time to mess around with the settings but I think you can achieve your effect thru AE.

Jeremy, Just set up a layer mask with the outer heart shape (the knockout) on the top most layer, and on the layer below it, the inner heart shape (the actual heart). Then, on the 3rd layer down, set up your partical effects from AE7's default FX pallette. Tweak the various settings in effects controls until you find what you are looking for. I am pretty sure I can import a Photoshop heart shape and set this up in a matter of about 15 minutes or so, and if you get stuck, let me know. I will create a test project for you to download and customize to suit your needs. Good luck! If you really want an effect that looks like glitter in water.... shoot some glitter in water! I have actually done this - the tricky bit is focusing in such a way that the glass is invisible. I tried using glassware I had in the house, but any imperfections at all ruined it, so I went out and bought a brand new round fish bowl for $5 or so. Shoot in a dark room, work hard on controlling spill (of the light, that is) and bring a few different types of glitter to try (most of the glitter I tried floats). Are you trying to do a Truly Authentic Star Trek (the Original Series) Transporter Effect? That effect was done with Alka Seltzer in warm water and was easier for me to recreate than the glitter thing. Just stir up your water and get it spinning in a good tornado and then drop in the tablets. They float around a bit, but you only need 8-10 seconds so it is pretty easy. Eric (in reply to IMG) |

What I am trying to create is an effect I saw on a recent American Idol spot. On the spot they use a generic block text that was extruded and mapped to the face was what looked to be a wall of sparkling glitter. I would create the text effect with Graffiti Ver. 5 and map a movie of the sparkiling glitter to the face. I have been trying to create this wall of glitter with AE 6.5 Pro using the Particle World but I am just going around and around in cirlces trying to get it looking like glitter, but it just looks strange instead of what I want. Last night I did shoot the bowl of glitter and later I will see how that works, but I feel that I should be able to created it via AE and Particle World but figuring that beast out will be the real task. Any ways I am going to keep working at it but if anyone has any more ideas please speak up, Thanks JDL (in reply to D. Eric Franks) |

Thats cool Eric I never knew that. A little off topic, but that reminds of school when I shot on one of those huge oxbury cameras (and by huge I mean the camera is as big as a room), I shot a bunch of stuff in water just to see what it would look like. I used food coloring, alluminom foil, dishwashing detergent, vinager and baking soda. Milk and vegtable oil are pretty cool too, you can get some pretty interesting effects. I have to find my old reel. Sorry for the hijack. < Message edited by Matt -- 1/17/2007 11:02:20 AM > _____________________________ mattjanowsky.com (in reply to jeremylee) |

Do sweat the hijack, last night I shot glitter in a glass bowl and then I put it in a stainless steel pot and I also got some cool footage. Once I do my effect I'll let you know how I think it came out.

Jeff, you're right! Particle Illusion from WonderTouch www.wondertouch.com is definitely worth considering.
