I work in FCP and want to broaden my voice sound effect abilities.FCP comes with some and Sound Track Pro has some also. But as a shipped default set its lacking. Does anybody know where you can purchase sets, or modules or sound effect plugins for FCP that specifically will allow me to take any recorded voice and then change it say to a woman's voice, or a Bristish accented voice and so on. Any ideas....? _____________________________ Quad-Core, 2.93GHz, OS 10.6.2, 32GB Ram, 4TB RAID 5 Internal, RAID Card, ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB, 4TB External Raid, FCP Studio 7, AE 9.0.2, Squeeze for the Web, MacBook Pro (MBP) 2.6 GHz, Dual Core, 10.5.7, Panasonic HPX300. |

I personally have never seen any effects that can *convincingly* change a man's voice to a woman's. And I'm guessing the transition from American accent to British is not possible, but I could be wrong. Eric (in reply to martinsvideo) |

I'm also unaware of any software that can really help change accents in voicetracks, but there are good software solutions for changing voices. Here's a brand new one (for Macs only) that I just found on Apple's website. Appears to be good for changing male to female, female to male, old to young, and those sorts of things (as well as pitch correction for singers). It's shareware, so you can try before you buy. Again, let me point out that I haven't tried this yet - so if you do, maybe you can share a user report with other Juicers! http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/voicetweaker.html Thumbnail Image Attachment (1)

I do believe there is a plug in for Pro Tools that will adjust pitch for spoken or singing...but it is expensive. Our audio engineer uses it when we do a musical CD to correct the singers that go off key. (in reply to Farley) |

Antares Autotuner is commonly used to "correct" imperfect singing. It's also sometime used for effect, as in that one Cher song "Do You Believe in Love After Love?" - but I don't believe it is commonly used to change the gender of the vocalist! Eric EDIT: Here is a link to the Cher video where you can hear the Autotuner. Not that Cher needs the Autotuner (she's got a great voice - unlike a lot of the poppie-singers that rely on the Autotuner to "help" them), but you can hear how it it used here to skip her voice to a particular pitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VGxhToawfs < Message edited by D. Thanks a million guys. I'm going to try that shareware and I'll let you know. I've got a real big week in front of me but as soon as I use it I'll post a review.

Yep, there are very good plugins available for changing pitch and alike. But that doesn't really change the gender of the voice.

The very best hardware pitch transposer, hands-down, is and always has been the Eventide Harmonizer. It will do scale-accurate harmonies, perfect pitch correction (no pun intended!), step transposing (like the Cher song "Do you believe in life after love?"), and much more. It is VERY expensive, and occupies between 1 and 4 physical rack spaces, depending on which model you buy. Also, plug-ins are available for PRO TOOLS, which gives you ALL of the effects and capabilities of the rack units. Once again, though, you are stuck buying the expensive full version of Pro Tools (not a total loss, PT rocks! It's good to have in the toolshed anyway!). Notice that just the plug-ins themselves are $1200.00! The rack units are a lot more than that, too. This is total pro gear, and that is certainly reflected in the price of the hardware and software. You want the very best, you pay for the best. BTW, the pitch transposing does a fairly convincing "woman" voice from most male voices, but in all cases, a "man" voice from a female trigger source always seems to be more problematic and far less accurrate in its tracking. It just doesn't sound as good or realistic IMHO. Scot _____________________________ ==== Scot ==== JD 37, 39, 40, 42, 46, 49 ST 4, 10, 12, 13 ETK 1-10, PTK HDJB 1-10 DJTV 1-3 (in reply to MikeM) |

IMG, Have you personally used this system? Is the learning curve steep? Can you give me a basic Idea of how it works? For instance, I work in FCP on a MacPro. I used a real nice shotgun mic on a boom when I do VO directly into SoundTrack which is another app that comes with FCP. I tweak it there the best I can, export it to FCP and do final tweaking there. How would this process change with a Eventide Harmonizer system? Thanks a million IMG. _____________________________ Quad-Core, 2.93GHz, OS 10.6.2, 32GB Ram, 4TB RAID 5 Internal, RAID Card, ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB, 4TB External Raid, FCP Studio 7, AE 9.0.2, Squeeze for the Web, MacBook Pro (MBP) 2.6 GHz, Dual Core, 10.5.7, Panasonic HPX300. The learning curve is VERY steep, this is VERY expensive, and VERY hard to learn. This is a total pro piece of gear that you have heard on hundreds, if not thousands, of songs and movies in the last 20 years. Digitech has a less expesive set of units, Pro Tools has a tom of different VST plug-ins available for it, and even Adobe Audition is a reasonable solution price and feature wise compared to all of the rest. The hundred dollar question: will they do what you are looking for? Only YOU can answer that question. Try Audition from Adobe's free download section on their site. It is NOT an intuitive, out of box usable experience, but almost all decent audio tools are fairly elaborate and take some time to learn the GUI and tool palette. I will gladly help you with any Audition questions you may have if you go that route. I have had it since long before Adobe bought it, when it was called Cool Edit Pro, and own every version since Adobe re-released it as Audition in 2003. "Back in the day", around the mid '90's or so, I had Cool Edit, Goldsuite, and Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge to work with. Prior to that, I had an Atari ST with a humble digital 4-track software program (late '80's). These days, it Cubasis, Acid, Sound Forge, Audition and Pro Tools. There are a LOT of choices out there, and most of them are really good these days. Pick something that works for your budget and learning (time) limitations and roll with it. There are a LOT of DJ members here that will help you out along the way with any questions you may have, and I am certainly offering my assistance as well.
