Hey all, I'm pretty new at using FCP and Motion. How do I create the effect that was used on the Field of View: King Cut? The one I am talking about is the overlay when it's showing the magicians hands etc.... The flickering or almost grunge effect. I don't even know what it's called but I really want to know how that effect can be duplicated. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! |

Generally, those types of effects are called Old Movie or Film Effects or something. I believe iMovie has an effect like that in it and maybe in FCP too. The particular effect you are seeing in FoV is not from a plugin, however, and is a custom job whipped together by the editor "Ace" Gates. At least that's what he told us, anyhow. Oh... Well i can't find any plugins in my FCP effects that do this...I've gone through all of them... If anyone else has any ideas or if this effect is easy to "whip together" please tell me how to do it! :) I could really use this effect or something similar to spice up a little bit I'm putting together for my brother's Mission trip video... Thanks! (in reply to jg60533) |

Here is how you can get the effect you mentioned pretty close in Final Cut Pro. While working in your timeline, have the clip or scene you want to change and go to your effects tab. 1. Find the Image control folder and locate the Sepia filter. Drop it in the scene you want to change. Open up the tab that changes the settings and set the highlights to -16, saturation to 63 and B Balance to 12. that should get you close. 2. Another way to get that effect pretty close is to also go to the Quicktime Folder in the effects tab and drop in the Color tint filter. Set the tinit type to sepia and play with the settings. Hope this helps you out. It should get you close to what's in the PoV video. There are lots of other ways you can accomplish that effect with other filters and straight settings. _____________________________ Editing is a CUT above the rest. http://www.sefx3d.homestead.com (in reply to D. Hey, Thanks for the response...However I may have asked a misleading question... I know how to do the sepia effect etc.... What I'm actually trying to re-create is that subtle flickering throughout the bit.... The overlay that flashes every here and there... Thanks! J (in reply to jg60533) |

it also depends on how it was shot as well for me I would use a color correction filter like the 3 way color correction apply it to the clip drop the blacks a little boost the whites a bit and shift the mids towards the blacks to finish the look to color it you can use the hue control in the mids and move the center point around to get the tint you want (if you want your blacks and whites similar tweak there controls as well) as well drop the saturation a little to mute down the colors overall above all EXPERIMENT _____________________________ DAVE (in reply to jg60533) |

OHHH your talking about the transition effect of the film clutter? that would be in VideoTraxx 3 and it is around the 07400's you would apply it over the clip you want it to be on and then set the composit mode on the videotraxx clip depending on the look you want < Message edited by David Slater -- 2/3/2007 6:09:59 PM > _____________________________ DAVE (in reply to jg60533) |

Motion has a few similar effects, look in the content section and try some of the light flares.

David, thanks so much for that tip. I tried the vid trax clip and just couldn't figure out how that was going to work. But I used a little knowledge of PS screen mode and composited like you said and was very pleased with the results. I'm finding that my PS knowledge is making FCP a bit easier. Thanks again. "a custom job whipped together by the editor "Ace" Gates" ....... Hmmm, I wonder about that after trying this tip. :) (in reply to Matt) |
