I have purchased a new computer that has one hard drive with XP preloaded.
I have a few questions about the setup I am attempting:

1.  Can I move the preinstalled hard drive to my removable drive bay and use the SATA cable that is already at that location, or must I make sure to use the SATA cable that is already attached to the hard drive.  Will it make any difference in terms of the computer knowing where the boot drive is located.

2. I plan to take the hard drive from my "old" computer and install it in the new computer to use as a data drive.  I plan to install the drive "as is" in my new computer, transfer the data to another hard internal hard drive and THEN reformat the old hard drive to remove the operating system and get it cleaned up.  Will this cause a problem if I have it in the computer with XP loaded on it?

Thanks.
Keith

If I am reading you correctly, you want to use our old hard drive as is in the new pc.  At least in the beginning.  Please note that the hardware configuration will be very different on the new pc than it is on your old one.  It will be looking for new hardware (audio driver, Network card driver, video driver).  Unless you can get to the internet to get these drivers, you may find yourself in a fix.  Why not use the new drive in the new pc as the new main drive and reinstall needed software to that drive?  It is a good time to clean up from old apps, and clean up stuff that may have got onto your hard drive that you dont want.  SATA cables are not master or slave specific, so you could use any sata cable to connect up a sata drive.

Hope this helps.
