I have never really desined a DVD cover. I have the art work, but I dont know the what size to use on Photo shop CS2, or should I use Illusrator to do it? Any tips on the format size and structure could be really helpful.
Thank you all
Ice

IceMan,

I use Amazon.com (CustomFlix) to distribute my videos.  On their website, they have PhotoShop templates that you can download and use.  Just go to www.customflix.com/Instructions/TMPDVDCover.jsp and download the template then follow the instructions inside the template.  When done, create a jpg file that can be imported into a label program like Memorex's exPressit using their DVD Storage Case Inserts.  I do this all the time when I need to create a low volume run.

Hope this helps,
Gary

Thanks for the link, Gary.

It was neat to see a proper DVD logo. Most videographers copy the DVD logo from a movie poster (which is false advertising - that logo is for stamped DVDs not burned DVDs and there IS a difference)
but that's been discussed ad infinitum in other threads here.

Brett,

CustomFlix is great if you don't want to mess with any aspect of distribution.  They take care of everything  The cost is steep (around $8/DVD off the top).  What I typically do is Use CustomFlix for the distribution and I also use the same DVD templates and upload them to Disc Makers.  They will do a 100 DVD run for around $3.25/DVD including srink wrapping.

I guess it is hard to beat the cost of my Primera Bravo... I figure it only cost me about $1.10 per DVD ($0.35 for the DVD-R, $0.45 in face ink, $0.20 for the case, $0.10 for the cover)
There is the set-up time and packaging time but normally I just plop down in front of the TV at night and assemble DVDs so it isn't that bad.

I guess I'm just looking for a lazy solution...

But CustomFlix could help out for people whom are not local that want copies so that they take care of the shipping and such,,,

Bill...thanks for pointing this out.  I'm willing to bet very few people know about it.

This is the official DVD Format/Logo Licensing Corporation site.  Here's an excerpt from "Who may use the DVD Logo":

Use of the Logo by Contents Owners/Providers, Video Productions, Authoring Houses etc.;
Basically, Contents Owners/Providers, Video Productions, Authoring Houses are not allowed to use DVD Logo on their own, even if they write video contents on DVD discs by themselves. It is because the businesses are not eligible for our Licensing programs.
Only when DVD Video discs are replicated by one of our Licensees, the businesses may use DVD Logo Under the Licensee's Instruction and are suggested to contact the licensed replicator that replicates the DVD Video discs. You may obtain the DVD Logo data and the information regarding how the DVD Logo should be used. (Please also refer to F.A.Q. "DVD Logo" Q.1-4)

I create mine in Illustrator. The template that comes with Illustrator is a bit too small. My dimenstions were just over 7.25"x11.25" with the spine between 5" and 5 3/4". Here's what it looks like:

Hope that helps.

Jonathan
