I ran into something last night which I nailed down to a juice template but cannot for the life of me wonder why it was happening.

In FCP, I had a 5 minute peice with standard DV footage and some juice overlays and templates. Renders fine in the timeline but for some reason when I try to export it through compressor to an MPEG 2 set, it causes FCP to crash and the batch to stop running. I tried everything and ended up exporting through QT as a full DV file, reimporting it and then exporting to compressor and it worked.

Now, being the type of anal retentive person that I am, I knew I wouldn't sleep until I figured this out. After a lot of crashes I got it to export if I removed overlay 073 from wedding ETK. Weird. Now, I cannot say for sure that it was the DJ product that caused this as I have had problems since upgrading to tiger. After this current project I plan to do a complete wipe and install of tiger and the new FCP studio and will test it again, but in the mean time I thought I would post to see if anyone else has had problems with compressor when using DJ stuff.

I dont have the latest FCP yet so give these a try...

1) Use the Juicer to render out a TGA sequcnce
In QuickTimePro: File > Open Image sequnce
- File > Export > Movie as QuickTime Movie (with Millions of Colors + Animation codec)
Import into FCP and render with compressor.

2) same as above, but with PNG MOV

3) Use one of the TGA files from above, but set its time to 10 seconds or so and render

4) Use the Juicer to render a PICT file and do the same as 3

5) ETK1 has static LowerThirds, just copy off of the DVD and import

What I am trying to achive is if the issue is with any alpha file type or just Animation codec. Using QTP by passes anything that the Juicer might do even though it uses the QuickTime libraries for file transcoding.

How's this grab ya. Lesson for all macies out there. Found the solution on an apple forum site.

DUMP your renders and re-render!!!!! Go into the render manager and dump them and then re-render.

It seems to be a QT/compressor issue. Works now.
