What is the best way to import swipes into AVID? I was under the impression that I could import as a .mov with audio and place on a separate video track to be used as a transition.  However when I do the video does not look the greatest.  Is there another way to do this so that the video looks great and the audio also follows?

I hope my question makes sense.

Victor

At the bottom of this page is a swipes video, it will show you the basics of using Juicer 3 and swipes. Basically select the settings you need for your project and let the juicer process it for you.

Hey Matt

I followed the tutorials.  When I go to import into Avid I get the option of importing as an RT Matte or Create A/V Clip.  When I import as Create A/V Clip the swipe does not seem to work correctly.  When I import as RT Matte I have to place video and audio separate but it looks and works correctly.  Do you have any suggestions why this might be?

Thanks
Victor

To avoid confusion you should tell us what Avid software you use, as Avid MC/XPress and Avid Liquid are way different. From what you wrote I guess you use Avid Liquid.

Hey Victor,

Here are the settings that I use for the Swipes:

Under Output

QT animation with Alpha

Field Order: Lower (Even)
Format: Quicktime Movie
Alpha Type: Straight

Track Options: Save as seperate track

I haven't had any problems with these settings.  I run Xpress 5.2.4.

Aspect ratio:  601/709

Color levels:  RGB

Field Order:  Even (lower)

Alpha: Invert Existing - if there is an alpha otherwise I do ignore

The audio is a seperate file.

I have the same import settings.  How I am asked if I want to import as a RT Matte or AV Clip.  When I import as an AV Clip there seems to be no alpha channel but audio and video are together.

Are you saying that I render the files separte in the juicer and then import separate into Avid?

Yes.  That is how I do it.

The TRACK OPTIONS gives you the choice of rendering it out of J3 as a audio/video movie or as seperate pieces.  I prefer to have them seperate.
