If you could recommend one of your Sound Effects products that would get close to emulating the sound effects found in the trailer for the film "300", which one would it be? Here is a link to the trailers - http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/hd/ Thanks. bsmall |

Welcome to the forum Brian and Michael. Michael, it "sounds" like you might have some inside information. Would you be willing to share a little more about how you are so certain? _____________________________ Juice to Date: 682 of 696 (in reply to Michael Mavrikios) |

Hey Winston, I have been working on most releases that require SFX. From MDE's to Swipes, JB to acquiring new SFX, to mixing DJTV. All I can say is that DJ pays close attention to what members post on the forums. What you need, want or even crave, if we can make it a reality then we have accomplished our goal. And keep in mind that DJ will always push the envelope for the highest quality products. _____________________________ Michael "MVRK" Mavrikios Sound Designer / Re-recording Engineer (in reply to Winston) |

Michael, Thanks, I did not know that you worked for DJ. It is obvious that the people working for Digital Juice are listening to their customers. You need only look at the products, quality, and customer service to see that. It is amazing to see the number of products that match suggestions made here on the forums. I have never encountered another forum where so many employees participate including the CEO. Thanks again to everyone at Digital Juice. We really do appreciate your efforts and it is because of those efforts many of us visit this site daily and have so many products in our collections. Thanks... _____________________________ Juice to Date: 682 of 696 (in reply to Michael Mavrikios) |

Spartans are the people the movie 300 is about. They are protecting Sparta from the Persians who are invading them. For anyone who has seen the movie I think they would get a kick out of the pic and since the topic was "300" I could not resist posting it.

Tx Dan, I haven't clicked on the link - now I have.... Not exactly my kind of film, too much blood and guts, too many special effects, too "Hollywoodized" rewritten version of history - (but then it is based on a novel...) But your image was right on - and probably got the message across just as much as all those expensive special effects. _____________________________ 75% Juiced (in reply to wizard) |

When I saw the movie - I didn't feel like I was watching a movie, but a video game.

To some, for example Greeks... 300 is a piece of history. And the story is not from a novel but from the true stand of the greek state of Sparta. The fact is that only God knows where westernized world would be right now if it weren't for that heroic stand. 300 have saved not only democracy but also freedom! So as a greek, I was proud of the way the movie was shot and the spartans depicted! :) _____________________________ Michael "MVRK" Mavrikios Sound Designer / Re-recording Engineer (in reply to wizard) |

MVRK - Yes, the basic story of the 300 is an awesome piece of history - not just Greek history, but world history. And I'm a fan of that period of history. That's why I was so disappointed that "Hollywood" didn't think it was a good enough story, so they had to turn it into a video game. Sorry if you took my comments as a slight to the actual 300. Far from it - I thought they deserved so much more. ![]() ![]()

I apologize if i came out strong... No worries about it wizard, but i was actually talking to Ellen when she mentioned that it was based on a novel! anywayz... 300 rocks, even if it looks like a video game. What matters now is where you get SFX like that??? and your answer is in the upcoming DJ SFX releases :) Life is good!!! quote: HI MVRK, excuse me, am a bit late in following past threads but saw your reply and just wanted me and the sound man to be at peace - Here is where I got the fact that the current rendition of "300" was based on a novel - from the write up on the trailer at the apple site given at the beginning of this thread: - http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/hd/ "Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae .... " Living in Rome I come face to face each day with the impact of ancient Greek and Roman history on world history. But commercial enterprises and novelists make products to sell and they are not always as interested in the facts of history as historians who research - but on what will bring an audience in. Hey Elen... I know the Frank Miller novel...We actually have a copy of it laying around somewhere in the studio. The story is based on true history facts though...You know that... The way it was shot and some of the details between characters were based on Frank Millers Novel.... If you get a chance to get a hold of a copy you'll see that the novel feels like the movie storyboard. Its all hand drawn and part of the reason why the movie looks the way it does is because of the book. Somebody mentioned that it feels like a video game...Well thats exactly how the book feels too. Anywayzzzz....Let peace come between the Sound man and Elen :) Fun debating right? So whats the next Frank Miller novel to become a piece of Hollywood history. Sin City is on the absolute tops of my list. Just waiting for it to come out on Blu-ray so I can watch it and 300 back to back.

quote: Thanks sound man for the info about this book being based on the facts - that is good to know - I'll put it on my list of "wanna" see films. And I shall try to flush out the novel as well .... I grew skeptical of these "hollywood history" films (thanks Zelkien69 that's a great expression) especially, after seeing the "Gladiator" here in Rome. Our S.P.Q.R. mayor, one hot August evening a few years back, gave the "Populus Romanus" et al. a big treat by showing it gratis on a huge screen right in front of the Coliseum. It was awesome! However, listening to the Romans debating the lack of historical facts behind some of it was a real eye-opener. Still an awesome experience - just not as historical ... However, seeing "ancient Roman soldiers" posing with tourists in front of the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain or "the Wedding Cake" is far from historically accurate as well - but everyone is enjoying themselves - so sometimes history and its facts often can take second place to a good photo remembrance, I guess... (talk about a picture being worth a 1000 words - I love watching these "Roman soldiers" talking on their mobile phones! ....) I would give anything to work on the sound design of the next Frank Miller novel. You are right that he is writing a piece of Hollywood history as we speak... The sound design on Sin City was great but 300 really blew me away!!! I will never forget the first time I watched it at the theater, I had goosebumps the whole time...Amazing sound...goes right up there with Saving Private Ryan!
