Here is a list of some of the enhancements I have noticed besides the security updates:

Improved rich text editing system
Fast Reply
- Allows you to post a reply to a topic without opening a new window (slick DHTML style)
Image thumbnails (see below)
- Dynamically creates a thumbnail of image when uploaded and embedded in post
Email notifications and forums subscriptions updated. Emails were not being generated before.
