Could someone please explain how they are meant to work to reveal text? Can they also be used to reveal full screen footage or are they mainly for text elements? Maybe explain which goes on what track? Eg:

Track 1 Revealer STILL
Track 2 Footage
Track 3 Revealer motion.

?

Thanks..

You have it basically right:

Track 1: Revealer
Track 2: Title
Track 3: Footage

The odd Vegas bug/quirk is that you need to right click the Revealer in the Top Track, select Properties and then (on the Media tab), set the Alpha Channel to Straight (unmatted). I usually keep the Revealer in its own track (more or less) and use keyframes and the Track Motion tool to position and resisze the animation.

Some Revealers CAN be used as full-screen wipes (ala Swipes), but you need to zoom way in on them (Track Motion again) and they are not really designed with this in mind, so it's rather hit or miss whether it'll actually work or not.

Wow. What a guess. Thanks..  Now with the title, do I have to wipe it in, in any way or will the revealer take care of that? Also, with 'track 3 footage' do you mean my actual video footage or do you mean the revealer motion? i.e., I notice that each revealer comes with a still and also a motion version. Are they meant to be both used to make a reveal happen?

Forget the still - that's just a thumbnail for the browser. Make sure you are getting the source animation (which is the gigantic file in the \Source\ folder). The rest of the files on the disc are for our browser software, the Juicer 3. For Revealers, since they are not full-screen, don't need to be brought into your editor at any particular size (e.g., 720x480) and will certainly be resized, I always just copy the source animation off the disc to my HDD, using the Juicer as my browser, but not as a conversion utitilty.

Try out the basic part first - just drop everything on the tracks and play for a bit. It should be very easy to get started (once you do the Alpha trick), but the devil's in the details. Yea, you could wipe in the title, fade it in, throw a liitle motion on it - there isn't a "right" way to synchronize the Revealer animation to the title animation, it's all just plain old keyframe animation work.

To clarify the tracks, let's say you are doing a car commercial:

Track 1: Revealer
Track 2: "No Money Down, $199 a Month!"
Track 3: Crazy Bob, standing in front of a 1979 Bronco.

Actually, the examples on this page do a better job of showing you what I'm not explaining very clearly:

Typically, you need some kind of transition on the text to "match" the revealer (fades, wipes, etc). I also find that some revealers look cool behind text as a sort of way to place emphasis ...
