Hey Guys...HELP!  I downloaded the demo version. Installed it and was excited. The program freezes all the time. Whenever I try to do something it takes like four minutes to make it happen. Using it in PP 2, it freezes the whole thing and I have to reboot. It's slower than molasses and is very frustrating to wait and wait and nothing happens. Any advice to a frustrated old far...you get the message.

I wanted to try it before I bought it. Right now...I don't think I'll be buying it.

I'm using a Dual core Intel 6300 @ 1.86 each processor with 3 gigs of ram.

I, too, was very interested and downloaded the trial version.  However, it appears that it doesn't work with either of my NLEs--Ulead MSP 8 or Pinnacle Studio 11.  I understand how great a deal this is, but I don't see me changing NLEs anytime in the near future.  During the installation process I thought I might have the opportunity to make it work with these programs, but either it doesn't or I just can't figure out how.

It can also be used as a free standing product, you don't have to use it within your nle just like you don't use the juice within the nle.
I ordered mine yesterday, looks like a great product. Richard I'm not sure what's happening on your end, I'm running dual processors
and 4 gigs ram with no issues.

How do we specify Windows or Mac version when we order (or is it one that comes with both)?  Because I notice when you download the trial it asks which one you want.

Damon, even running as a free standing program, I get the same results. I have reinstalled it and it just freezes, or it takes five minutes for the next screen to appear. There's a screen that comes up about unlocking, purchase, etc. That screen won't disappear when you click to close it and is over the right video. It's very frustrating... Don't know what's wrong.

Any FX users out there with some answers?

Hey Richard, long time no chat.  I am downloading now, so I will let you know if I get the same situation.  Long download... took nearly 40 minutes.  I'll posy what happens with it.

Richard... loaded it up and played around with it a bit and everything seemed pretty good (no crashes, ran pretty quickly, etc.)

As a loooooong time Boris FX (and Graffiti) user, all I need are the periodic upgrades. Is there a deal on that as well?

Well, I said that I wasn't going to order this because I was saving my money for Final Cut Studio.... But I ordered this deal anyways. Matt said something the other night along the lines of 'this deal is worth it just for the 10 pack of juice and GCs' I thought about it and he was right, so I decided to place my order, a 10 pack and GCs are definitly worth it. And I have used Boris in the past and I like it, I probably won't use it all the time, but who knows. There are some pretty cool effects in it. I did get the FCS2 also, it came the other day but I haven't had time to install it yet... who knows when I will get to that!

Will it be shipping from Boris, or from Digital Juice? And will we be getting a conformation Tracking number from Fedex like we do with DJ orders?

My question is about After Effects, Premier & Boris FX. If anyone out there is an AE user, can you tell me whether Boris FX would increase my abilities since I already have Premier and AE? I'm pretty proficient with Premier, but haven't really cracked open AE at all, so I don't know if Boris FX simply duplicates what I can do in AE already. Any help?

I have used AE and to be honest I only bought Boris because it will allow me to work within my favourite NLE (Avid Liquid).  As a premier user stick with AE.

Been looking at the Boris FX deal, but the price has changed.

Just curious.

Because the previous price ended at midnight Sunday as was mentioned every day it was up. It's still a good deal if you want it, but, unfortunately, the $10 is the penalty for waiting too long. Don't be surprised to see it go up even more, or not even be available at all "soon".

Here's a question from hopefully not-too-far out of left field:

I'm excited as all heck by the prospect of these cross-promotional deals,
and quite literally leapt at the chance for the Boris FX. Sprained my knee and everything.

Now with the Magic Bullet Suite within arms'-reach, my hesitation is actually a tertiary
concern: in the deal for the Magic Bullet Suite, one Editor's Toolkit is also being thrown in.

But... what if you have already purchased the entire selection of all 10 Editor's Toolkits?

Is there a small range of wiggle-room maneuverability within the already-amazing deal?

Speaking purely from a personal standpoint, I'd love to see DJ hook up with Adobe to offer some cross-promotional deals.  I would do more than sprain a knee (hope that wasn't too serious SheikYoboudi) to place an order for a good deal on some of the CS3 products (especially the likes of Affect Effects, Photoshop or Illustrator).

Good question Sheik - but in the past, on deals of the day etc, there were no substitutions allowed, unless specifically mentioned.

When the survey was first put up, no price was mentioned, so I thought I might try it, but $200 is too steep for me to justify on a toy. No offense to the software - I'm sure it's worth it to those who can use it. Just to me, it would be something to play with, and nothing more (I shoot video not film - and like the video look, and get turned off by the new fad of trying to be something else) If I needed an ETK, I would have had to think harder, but I have them all. Maybe if there's some left, they could do another sale with the new music coming out, or substitute a few GCs for the ETK, or ??? But for now, I'll have to pass also.

call sales and ask them about that...they're pretty good with people who own all of the products in a particular line for a special.

beat me to it bill hehe

Just got mine and installed it -- will take a bit of a learning curve for me I think, and apparently my 2GB DDR2 won't cut it (Premiere just closed itself) so I just ordered another 2GB ;)

In any event - I see Boris Graffiti is also included on the CD and I got all excited... 'til I realized it was just a trial version. :/  Maybe DJ could strike up another deal for Graffiti?

It doesn't work with AE.  Got mine today, wasted some time getting it to work with Premiere Pro CS3(have to copy some plugins around) but couldn't get anything to work with After Effects.  After a bunch of digging it seems clear the Boris web site is slightly misleading about it's compatibility with After Effects.  It appears version FX 8 was compatible with After Effects, but they silently dropped that feature with version 9.  Very disappointed.  This on top of Juicer 3's lack of support for not very old copies of Editors Toolkit #2 (requiring me order a replacement set of DVD's, which I so won't EVER do) is making me re-thinking future Digital Juice purchases.  -Matt

It seemed pretty clear right here that FX 9 wouldn't be compatible with AE, which is why I didn't jump on the deal.  Sorry to hear about the issue with ETK #2.  Did they walk you through making sure that you couldn't load it manually through the Juicer by selecting the version that you have?  I had that happen on a few of my products and once I went through those quick and easy steps everything worked like a charm.

It's not very clear on their matrix at all if you ask me.  They list a version of Boris FX working with After Effects, logically versions higher than this should also work.  But more "misleading" is the fact if you go from their home page to the "Adobe After Effects" link under "Host Options" they list "Boris FX" along with their other products as a custom plugin that works with AE.  See http://www.borisfx.com/hosts/ae/ The problem with ETK 2 doesn't make any sense to me, it looks like Digital Juice won't ship a set of definition files and thumbnails that work with the older ETK 2, forcing you into spending $15+shipping to get a new set of discs.  So all the new sound effects I bought in SoundFX II that are supposed to match up with ETK2 are worthless and I have to keep using the old Juicer 2 or pay a "you were stupid and bought it too soon" tax. As for Boris FX.  Very disappointed.  I spent a few hours playing with it and Vegas (which at least does work, but not very well).  The integration with Vegas is very weak, all sort of timeline issues (durations of clips don't transfer, clips themselves don't transfer just one frame, etc.  I think the kicker for me was when I tried to use it to do some simple motion stabilization and it also changed the contrast and colors (despite no filters to do that).  It seemed to work slightly better with Premiere (less timeline issues). Oh and the online help for Boris FX, forget it.  It's really the online help for Red and constantly refers to features that aren't in Boris FX at all with no notes about what might be different.

I went for the $149 deal on Boris FX back in June, and okay, I know I should have written this back then, but I've finally just gotten to the point where I wanted to do something with Boris.

After putting a simple effect together, I wanted to export it as an AVI file to use in Photodex Producer.  When I clicked on "export", the only choice is targa.  I went through the Boris tutorials, and they clearly state that you can choose to save it as a movie file.

I've used it as a standalone primarily because it's just too clunky and slow within Premiere Pro, and the ad DID say it functions both as a standalone and plug-in.

I'm really bummed out that I paid that much money but can't use it.  Please someone tell me that I am just doing something wrong, and that it really does produce movie files!

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, I would either use it as a stand alone product and then save your file. Or you can launch it thru the plug-in in Premiere. Either way, you will have to have the project opened in the Premiere plug-in in order to export the file as a movie. I believe that you need to have Boris Red or one of the higher programs to export it as a movie if you aren't using it thru a host application.
So I would generate any sort of clip (text, etc.... in FCP you can use a slug generator) then apply the Boris filter to the clip and launch the Boris generator. Then open your saved file and then you can export it back out as a movie file that you can open in anything that can open a .mov file.
I might be a little off with some of this, but that should get you going in the right direction.
