Zaxwerks ProAnimator  Ok..this looks like a great tool to have in the bag. The more I look at it the more I want to buy it. Now the big question is....DO I NEED ILLUSTRATOR? From the comments that are found below the promotion clip some say yes and some no!!!!confused.

Illustrator is not required but you may find it expands your horizon more with Pro Animator.  But you can definitely pick up Pro Animator now and if you feel you need to, add Illustrator later.

Many thanks for your comments. Maybe you can give me some clarification. Will I beable to create 3D logos without Illustrator. Reason for this question is I receive logos is all kinds of formats, JPEG, PDF, paper etc...and what I am trying to do is add life thes dull formats.
My Editing suite is Avid Liquid 7 and I also use Wavelab for audio.

regards

If the client sends you a logo in illustrator format you may be able to load it in. I have found it needs to be an older illustrator format CS3 won't work. If they send you a JPG no you can't import that in and get a 3d model of the logo the same thing with a paper logo.
A PDF maybe if you have illustrator and depending on how it was inserted into the PDF. If it was a tiff file placed into a pdf then no it won't come into zaxwerks, but if it was a vector file placed into a pdf then you can get it out.

So you may or may not need illustrator. Download the demo and see how it works. If you find it helps buy it if not don't. The only thing I would recommend is don't wait too long, because you never know how long it will be here for this price.

It seemed to me that if you want to animate text, you can use it as a stand-alone, but if you want to use it for logos, you need Illustrator. Since that would be the reason for me to get it, and I don't have/don't want Illustrator, I guess I'll be passing on it. Does look like a neat program though, and Zax' stuff works pretty good. I have their 3D Flag, and like it a lot.

I'm trying to download the demo before I spend the money. I go to Zaxwerks, fill in the info for the download and the page comes up that the download page has been sent to my email. BUT I NEVER GET IT! Does anyone have the download URL from Zaxwerks? If you do can you email it to me?

Thanks!

I'm pretty certain it is a temporary download link that's only good for a certain amount of time.
Check your junkmail or try if you have another e-mail try sending it their like maybe a yahoo or gmail account.

Richard I had no problems when I had Zax PA sent to my hotmail address.  Perhaps you need to check your junk mail to be sure it isn't being directed there.  I find ZAx PA awesome.

Thanks everyone! It took three days to get the email but it finally came yesterday.

I played with the demo and placed an order yesterday as well. Now I just hope it doesn't take three days to get the key for the program.

I purchased ProAnimator and have played with it a little, but not as much as I'd like.  How does everyone else use it, as a standalone product or as a plug in in AE or a combination?  Thanks.

I'm using it so far as a stand alone program on my new Mac.  I have Illustrator on my PC, but so far my project is only involving text.  It's very easy to use, I've been using in my almost sleep state late at night and it still looks good in the morning:)

I have only used it as a stand alone product so far.

I downloaded the demo a couple of weeks ago, and finally loaded in the product key today.  Hooray!  I had tried using it in AE very briefly, but only enough to get myself in trouble.  I learned a lesson.  I had invoked it as a plugin and set up a project using it, but had not rendered it or closed the plugin when I saved everything and quit AE for that session.  But when I tried to run the standalone version it started up just fine and let me cnfigure text, but it would not run any animation presets, which had worked fine the day before.  Until I remembered what I had done in AE I was thinking that my copy of the software had been corrupted somehow.  I was just about ready to throw in the towel, strip it all out and reinstall.  But before that I went back into AE and thought that maybe I should close the plugin.  When I got back out of AE and tried the ProAnim standalone, everything was fine.  Let's just say it left an impression on me.

The more I get into this software, the better I like it.  It's amazing to me what it can do, and I haven't even BEGUN to use it with Illustrator.

Did I understand correctly that it won't work with Illustrator CS3?  So I should keep Illustrator CS2 on the system even when I load in my CS3 upgrade?

I have not done extensive tests with Illustrator CS3 and Proanimator, but did notice that I had to save the files as Illustrator CS2 files in order for Proanimator to open them.

CS3 Illustrator works fine. You just need to ensure the Compression setting is turned off and its saved as outlines.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it has to do with ProAnimator

Just bought JuiceDrops v. 39 (allFLAGS) in the $9.95 clearance sale. I was making a flyer last night that I used the Arkansas state flag. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the Paths tab in Photoshop. Lo and behold! There were paths for everything but the lettering. Exported and edited them in Illustrator, then animated in PA. Looks awesome. I can see how they can do this with lots of flags, but not all, especially if it has a picture or seal or something like that. It was an unexpected surprise. Sorry, it was bed time and I had to get up early, so I didn't check any more graphics.

OK... hijack over.

Thanks for the information Jason.  I am going to give that a try with a couple of the flags this weekend.  It is really nice to get a pleasant little surprise every now and again.

I really would like to have this as well, but I have a feeling that after watching the last few DJTV shows, I need to just save my pennies and get After Effects
