HI, I thought it would be best to post here as I have something to reference to. I was unsure if I would be able to explain what I was trying to do on Liquid forum correctly.. I am trying to do an opening for a church programing. Want I what to do is have a camera view of one cropped photo, then move camera view to another photo that has the look of being behind it. I have seen this on some commerical and the JB mentioned in the title does this as well. I have actually tried doing this in HFX. It is not excatly what I want to achieve as HFX doesn't really doesn't give the depth perception. I believe this maybe better off in AE, Boris, or a 3d program. Unfortunately I do not own any one of these. I do have blender but I am still in the process of learning it and my time frame will not allow me to have time to learn it to do this. If I cannot achieve this in Liquid soley. thats fine. The info on how to do it is more then welcomed. thanks dew |

If you use Sony vegas vasst.com has a veg file that will do this, you just replace the photo's with your own. http://vasst.com/resource.aspx?id=b5798cf8-d445-49a7-8deb-9fb8984c2663 michael (in reply to dew) |

That sounds like a good question that maybe Ace or Sean can help with.....

I don't actually use Liquid but this tutorial on the 3D Editor may be helpful. Although this tutorial talks more about 3D rotation than position... as long as the 3D Editor gives you access to the Z axis for position - you should be good to go

This doesn't sound too hard. To make sure I understand. You have two pictures and a background clip. You want the first picture to be a "picture in picture" or PIP and have this picture sit on the background. Then you want to move to the left or right and have the second picture appear behind the first picture and in front of the background. Is this correct? If so, cool. Put the background on the bottom track. Put the first picture at least two tracks higher than the background. Use the 2D editor to create the PIP effect and put this picture where you want it. Put the second picture on a track between the background and the first picture. Use any 2D editor to create another PIP. Slid the second picture to the right of the first picture so it doesn't appear at the same time as the first picture. Use the 2D editors to slid the two PIP's around and to control their size to create the illusion of depth. The two PIPs can be resized/moved/etc.. as needed. The Classic 3D editor does have a Field of View setting if you care to give it a try. How much experience do you have with Liquid?? I don't want to over explain nor do I wish to offend you. Please post back with your questions if I've missed the point. _____________________________ Jim "It is fun doing the impossible" Quote from Walt Disney (in reply to dew) |

I played with the 2d and 3d but it didn't give the look I wanted, it could be me. HFX is a bit closer as it allows me to move the camera axis and field of view while leaving the pics stationary. I will keep trying. If anyone elses attempts this please let me know. I'll try to post what I have done for some feedback. Anyone know the best way to convert to quicktime file with LE? Last time I tried to do it to post on showcase it was to big.

I think posting what you have done so far will give us a better idea of what you are trying to achieve

Since we can view it on the gallery I thought some might take a look at it to have a better understanding of what I was trying to do.It is excatly what I want to do. I scrapped my first attempt but as soon as I jump back on it I will post. I have to clean up a project I am finishing right now. thanks (in reply to alanMAC) |

I watched JB1016 again and you could also do that in 2D... just keyframe the size and position of the figures. To get the swirls to reveal themselves, you'd just need to keyframe a mask for each in addition to any size/position changes. I've created similar shots in Vegas and also in After Effects - sometimes I do it in 2D, sometimes in 3D, sometimes with a camera - bascially, there are multiple ways to get it done. Parenting/nesting/grouping tracks also helps speed up the process when working on the timing aspect.

Yes, it can be done in 2D. Like Jules said, you need to keyframe each object separately to get the effect of a camera moving in Z space. Force = (Mass x rate of change velocity with respect to time) + (Velocity x rate of change of mass with respect to time) OR Force = Mass x acceleration when mass remains constant Liquid Edition just isn't the right tool for this job unless you have spare time on your hands. Of course, I'd love for someone to show me a way cool technique to do this in Liquid Edition. You can learn quite a bit by listening. I am off to watch the Patriots roguh up the Colts. _____________________________ Jim "It is fun doing the impossible" Quote from Walt Disney (in reply to jmeredith) |

I've started it in HFX. Rendering is longer but only object I have to move is the camera, z axis field view etc. I will post when completed. P.S. Colts will be victorious. It's that simple. (in reply to windhamjim) |

Dew, it's obvious to a casual observer that nothing is as simple as it may seem......

I've seen this done in AfterEffects. Essentially, you want a static background and static pictures but you want to move your camera through "Z" space, between the pictures.

Here is the what I came up with. It is a work in progress. I have already been told to change beginning which I am working on now. Any advice is certainly welcomed. I did they depth look in HFX. It was easier to move the camera axis and not keyframe each object in 2d or 3d editor. http://www.mediafire.com/?8cz3cyrxd9m (in reply to windhamjim) |

Nice Job. Hollywood FX is a little gem and not many of us have used it. I admire your quest for knowledge. _____________________________ Jim "It is fun doing the impossible" Quote from Walt Disney (in reply to dew) |

The more I play with it the more I like using it. You are right not many are using it. Personally I don't want to have 3-5 programs to do some basic things so I try to push with what I have. I am looking into getting AE.
