Anyone know of an online company that will take my digital images and mount on foam board? Thanks. Keith |

I believe Sams Club does this in their Photo center. I would also check Costco and some of the other warehouse stores like that. They usually have a good deal on this type of stuff. The only caveat is that you have to belong to the club you plan on using if they have that feature. As I am thinking about this, I am thinking of one photo on a foam board at a time. If you wanted to use say 30 pictures and have them all mounted collage style, you would have to make a single image collage yourself, and upload it as one image to the site of your choosing. Not sure exactly which way you were thinking, but just an idea. _____________________________

Keith, just my opinion, but I won't allow a piece of Foam Board in my shop. It's not stable for long term application. Gator Board is my personal selection. We use a print mount film applied with our laminator and it has a 99 year museum archiveable warranty. I can't recall the brand name right now, but if you'd like to e-mail me and give me your general location, when I get to the shop tomorrow I'll check into it and see if my supplier can hook me up with a shop in your area. _____________________________ Got Guts - Get Graphics (in reply to JasonGaines) |

Donnie, we just bought a new 24 inch wide Canon printer and love it. I wonder how many people who do video/graphic arts own or use a large print printer. I take it that yours opened up great avenues of opportunity to you. I know it is for us.

Paul, I've had a Roland SC540 eco-sol for 4 1/2 years and it's been a dream come true. I did custom Harley painting (& a few cars) for 9 years in Orlando, so when this printer came out it blew me away. So yeah, it's opened lots of new avenues. We do anything you'd expect a sign shop to do, but then we also run a lot of Canvas, glossy & Matt Photo Prints and amazingly enough we have a huge fan base of people that just want their prints done on regular cheap "For Sale By Owner" vinyl. It gives a really high gloss print and has an unknown life span as far as being used for indoors. I envy your Canon, you've got one up on me in the B&W area. The Roland only has one shade of Black so unless I spend major time and re-do all my standard settings I can come up with some greenish areas. I do however have the capability to print a 52 " wide print. The printer can be set for actual 1440 x 1440 dpi but it's not practical, and takes too much to change back and forth from that to normal daily output. We also have a seal 62" Laminator/Mounter. I could go on forever about our print capabilities, not as a sales pitch, but because we have so much fun with what we do and it's all family run. We have people come and just hang out at the shop from time to time just to have coffee, see what we're working on new, or just to hang and listen to the music. Oh yeah, gotta have the jams going all the time. I have about 6,000 songs on one of my comps and haven't had to listen to a commercial in years. The songs cover everything from Merle Haggard to Aerosmith. I guess what I'm starting to ramble towards is we have way more fun than you should at be able to at work, and we love it. If I can ever be of any assistance to you, please let me know. (in reply to pauld) |

Great stuff, Donnie, Please continue to tell us some of the other equipment you have. Do you do much for corporations? This is fascinating and i believe some of the others on this forum would be interested as well. You are a great addition to our forum, and i love the cycle. _____________________________ Paul D, Rainmaker Business Success Enterprises http://www.BusinessSuccessEnterprises.com Bedrock Alliance Group, Inc http://www.BedrockAllianceGroup.com "To Get What We've Never Had, We Must Do What We've Never Done!" Paul is correct. All print conversations get my attention! I am exceptionally interested in larger format printers and their capabilities. Now that my kids are out of college, I can start trying some fun stuff like trying to design motorcycle wraps or posters or... who knows!? As far as the printer goes, like I said, it's a Roland SC540. It's not a hobby printer at the price, but for my shop it's exactly what we need. For some time now we've been gearing towards nothing but Vehicle wraps and Custom Print & Cut graphics. During the art composition we can give the graphic a 'cut ' line and when it's ripped through the print program that's all it reads it as. Meaning it will print with a crop mark in each corner of the print, we then take it off the printer, let it air dry for at least 24 hours to dry and gas out because the inks will change the characteristics of the vinyl before drying completely. Then we laminate the print with a film laminate. We never use liquid laminates. The laminate will depend on the application the print is used for, same as with the vinyl, but in this case we're talking about Custom vehicle graphics. Once it's laminated we load it back in the printer and it reads the crop marks to line it up exactly as it was printed and then will come back and cut the vinyl on the edge of the print itself just deep enough to weed away the part that's not being used in the graphic. Just like regular cut vinyl vector graphics that have been around for years. Well this may seem weird, but my wife just got home and we have a dinner to go to. As soon as I can I'll touch on this some more, like Trustworthy suppliers that actually use and know their product line before they start selling anything. And some killer ideas I have but haven't been able to market because I'm not a photographer and would have to be and have the right equipment . A close friend of ours gave me an EOS 30D with a few small item accessories like a battery charger and extra batteries and a tripod a few months back, and while I've had a blast using it, all I really do is point & click. I also plan on getting into digital video but have no clue what to buy for a beginner camera. Thanks for the interest, makes me feel good that I may be able to contribute to the site. Am I allowed to list my suppliers web site on here? If anyone is interested Jason can guide you towards the right printers, etc. for your individual needs. The only reason I would even list him is because I trust him. One of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. And I will admit, while I don't remember if I ever told him, he literally saved my business from folding. It's a long story but when I went digital I found out the hard way there are some very dishonest people out there, I don't care how good the reputation the company they work for is. I lost thousands of dollars because of this and Jason followed me on a printers forum talking about it and finally jumped in and asked if he could help me out. I've regained profit since then. Thanks for sharing your expertise, it's much appreciated. I find myself heading to Clarkesville every 2 or 3 months (from Cookeville). I'd like to stop by your shop on one of those trips to share info if you don't mind. Since 'officially' getting into media production a little over a year ago I've been dabbling in several different areas -- still looking for that area that I would like to settle into and printing is one I have yet to check out. While I don't have the depth of expertise in any particular area that many others here have, I do have a degree of experience across multiple subjects and wouldn't mind sharing it with you over a coffee or two. I've also got a pile of Juice Drops to find a use for....

Donnie, I'm not sure what the restrictions are on listing suppliers, etc. but my email is listed on my profile. I am actually looking at starting a "fiber arts" business with a couple from my church. The business would involve printing directly onto fabrics...kind of a design and crafts combination. The idea for doing a wrap for my Yamaha 1100 would be a fun thing but not a necessary printer capability. I checked out your website and it looks like you have a great, fun, family-run enterprise going! Congratulations on that! I've always wanted to have my own business but have been on a steady and stable track --spent 20 years in the military and now work for the Army as a civilian. I don't regret the service but I still want to fulfill that lifelong dream of having a successful business of my own. I don't want to gush too much and scare ya off. If you could help me with a source for good, solid and honest advise on entry-level business printers for laying down long-lasting, washable inks onto fabrics I would appreciate that. I enjoyed checking out the vehicle graphics you have on your Elite Signs site. You and your family must really enjoy working the business. It shows! I'm gonna go ahead and post his name & number. If the mods tell me it's wrong I'll take it down, or they can. But since I don't think DJ deals in print materials and equipment they shouldn't mind. After all, if you can't print your stuff that takes half the fun away. And they don't deal with software so I don't see a conflict of interest here. The company is AllSquare, their # is 1-800-286-8801 and the main person I deal with is Jason Curd. Jack, you'll most likely deal with Lucky in Sublimation. Great thing about AllSquare is they have 4-5 different departments and each one specializes in what they do. They also have someone that deals only with fine print such as Gheklae (sp) and I think that's what would most interest everyone on this forum for personal printing. Sam, man I'd love for you to stop by. What in the world takes you from Cookville to Clarksvegas? Clarksville is my home town. I PM'ed my cell. I'm in and out of the shop so that's the easiest way to reach me. _____________________________ Got Guts - Get Graphics (in reply to jmcc4tx) |

Donnie -- Got the PM, thanks. I'll be sure to give you a call next time I'm headed that way. What brings me to Clarkesville? Well, I've got a brother there so we visit occasionally (although he comes here more than the opposite), I drop into Fort Campbell every now and again, and my kids sports take us there occasionally as well. Hope to see/talk with you soon. _____________________________ Sam (in reply to Get Graphics) |

I did this al ot at my old job, pretty basic, we used 3M Spray mount. Spray the back of the pics and lay them on the board, use an exacto knife to trim them. One trick we did was to cut them after we mounted them. Pretty simple to do, you can probably get the supplies for the same cost it would be to have a few done for you.
