Nicely done. Only improvment I would suggest was to have an A/B comparison of the bottle pouring video. Yeah, I went back into the flick to check out the original footage, but, A/B would have been nicer.

This was one of the best explanations of blending modes I have seen. The tricks using them were the real gold though. I hope you can expand on this one, explaining Hard Light and Soft Light, etc. along with tricks for their use. Great show.

I knew blending modes pretty well before, but the concepts of using them in duplicated tracks like the shot of the beer pouring was new to me. Nice work.

5+ Stars. Awesome (as always). I am sure all of this is in my manuals somewhere, but it is so much easier to learn when it is exaplained directly and simply. Chris always does a great job of making complex concepts easy to understand...and DJTV is best when it provides concepts that can be used across multiple platforms and applications. Keep up the great work!

Chris is brillent in this tutorial !!!! Keep up the good work, really gave me ideas never worked with the blend mode. Did not know it existed !!! LOL. Just learning FCP. Would like to see more tutorials about layering images over each other. Also masks that you can do like make people mouths move. Also would like to have a still picture frame and have pictures changing inside then go to some movement.
Get excited over all your tutorials, you guys are the best!!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Superb episode, Ace. What a great way to not only define different blending modes, which in itself is excellent information, but to then give us some wonderful examples of how to utilize these different modes in myriad combinations to achieve beautiful results. Top notch!

My friend has done some amazing things over the years in Photoshop using blending modes; however, most everything he did with them was by trial-and-error. Having a breakdown of how the basic modes work is fantastic. Thanks, Chris.

Excellent presentation on blending. The mixture of two or even more images really made the video "pop" and draw more attention to it.

Great use of layers and blending effects. Also very smart to encourage creating a menu of different blends for different effects. Very inspiring.

On average I read five to six articles about video production a day, every day. Usually on my lunch break or before or after work, I will sit down and paw through a magazine, or read a chapter in one of my editing books. Usually I see the same stuff rehashed over and over again. Occasionally I will see something that is new, but usually it is something that involves new and expensive equipment that I don't have access to or can't afford. This was different.

I have not been this inspired and excited about working in an editing program, since I first started making videos in college. I literally have never seen anything on this type of manipulation before. Maybe, it's because I never had After Effects so I never bothered to learn about compositing beyond basic keying, but none of the editors I have worked with knew anything about this type of work. If they did, they certainly never shared it. Well done!

Absolutely wonderful informaion and could not have come at a better time. I'm in the middle of editing a project and at a point where I need to "beef-up" a few clips. The client has asked for a "CSI" look and now I know how to do it. I look forward to all of your DJTV productions...well done guys and girls.

That clears up a lot of questions I had about blending modes. Mostly, I would just click at random on them until I found a neat look. Thanks!

RE"Great job. It makes me want to go buy Final Cut Pro. Lol
Posted on 10/10/2007 by Cedric Tillman"

What are you editing with? Windows Movie Maker?
Most any professional NLE has this ability. From Vegas, FCP,Avid, etc. Not sure what you use, but take another look.

Good job professor... not promoting any specific editing software is smart, staying on track with the "technique concept" is plausable. Editors need the concept, not product promo.
You get five stars from me for that kind of creative illustration. Keep professing that way and it will not isolate the creative community at large. Kind regards.

That was one of the better cutting class episodes. Full of concrete examples and largely NLE agnostic.

The sidebar "history" films are getting old, though. They don't provide much deep information, and distract from the rest of the episode.
