Great work Chuch & crew, I'm a newbie & have read & heard about this subject before but never as crystal clear. It's one thing to "talk about" what to do but this lesson gave VERY specific examples & that has helped me more than other lessons about the rule of 1/3's. Thanks, Rick

While these tips may be review for myself and some others, it's still GREAT information to be reminded of. Besides, I'm the video studio director for a high school, and the teachers that use the studio don't have the time to watch all these tips and tricks videos, so it's nice for me to catch this info and pass along any info that will help. Thanks again!

Excellent segment once again. Thanks for showing the basic rules with wonderful examples. The ideas are easy to see and understand. Chuck, you and your team have such a great way of making the material interesting and fun. I always look forward to these segments and pass the link along to colleagues.

Hey this stuff is good Im being able to train my people using these short but effective clips thanks for all your work...

As a DOD contractor, one of my clients is the US Army and other federal agencies. The guys I work with, (other GS-ranked type of personnel), have no idea of how to shoot properly. Not to mention post production. I will be offering some courses for them to get things better than they had so far. This kind of stuff is extremely handy for that purpose. I which I had it when I was a college professor...God bless you all!

Love it! How do you keep from stumbling over all those alliterations and rhymes?
Also, can we get a way to post comment and rating at the same time?

I have used a mac for years and am totally hooked. Didn't think it could get better... then I discovered Final Cut Pro, even more hooked. But I have to say since I've discovered Digital Juice, the products, the video "training" clips, etc etc I am forever hooked. Your site is beautiful. Your clips are unbelievably helpful for a beginner like me. THANK YOU. Can't say THANK YOU enough. Digital Juice ROCKS!!!!!!!

I'm so happy to see someone teach theory! No one does it anymore! I think beginners desperately need to start with it. That being said, I can't wait for your more advanced episodes.

Chuck, great work! I've had to learn these things on my own and never could communicate what I wanted to my cofilmers or what have you. Now I know how to convey what I'm looking for as a videographer and editor. DJTV ROCKS!!!!

Thanks again. I teach a Middle School Television Production class. We are now watching and answering questions about every episode. I have included DJ TV as part of my weekly exploritory curriculum.

What did we do before Digital Juice? Thanks for the great tips. I am headed out to take better video? One unrelated comment: Your video views wonderfully even at full screen. Do you give out tips on how to put video over the internet do it looks like your rather than mine. Mine being pixelatted and blurry when blown up to full screen.

Even if you have been shooting video and photos for 20+ years like I have, it does not hurt to be reminded of what we may take for granted.

I am addicted to these segments. Even the basic ones like this one reinforce good technique. Thank you.

Re-instilled some good old basics. Great presentation, I hope this one is archived for many, many opportunities to review again.
Question - Have you ever done a segment on "story boarding tips and techniques"?
![]()
Great job! Much of it was review from college, but it's a great refresher course. I'm mostly involved in post production so my photography skills are still developing (I know a bad shot when I see it, but I don't always know how to avoid them when I'm shooting). Now I want to go out and practice to get better at shooting!
Thanks!

I assume the same applies for composing 16:9 shots. I don't shoot a lot of 16:9 yet, but I can't see why it would not be pretty much the same.

This months take 5 was very informational I knew about just one of the third( lower thirds) but this video helped me understand how and where to place your subjest that you're shooting thanks Dennis Warner

Wow! I really learned a lot from this one. Can't wait till my next shoot!
Thanks for the tips and examples.

This is a great one for my video team at church. It is one thing for me to tell them about framing shots, but to hear it from someone else, done as well as this, is a whole lot more effective. Thanks and I'm looking forward to more....

Words to live by - excellent for the novice & good review for the more advanced. Well put together - thanks

Very, very useful - I'm planning on getting some guys together that are on our video team to watch these DJ tv programmes to learn these vital techniques. This is a great resource - thanks for making it accessible to all!

Thanks Chuck. Presented well, explained simply and demonstrated superbly. Perfect coverage for the most important subject a shooter can learn. Five Stars - at least!

Chuck,
Your Take 5 segments are still a great hit in my class room. We covered framing a couple of weeks ago, but there's no way I can duplicate your charisma. The class got a lot more out of listening to you than they did from me!

Great Tips. I use these tips when I shoot guys surfing or skateboarding all the time.
Nothing worse than not getting the right shot in the correct frame.

Thanks Chuck, you rule! Shooting for a decade now it seems I forgot the rules of composition, thanks so much for reminding me of the basics. Keep up the good work.
