  The Digital Juice Fonts Texture Flip Flop plug-in is designed to extend the capabilities of our free Juicer software by allowing you to customize the texture fill of individual letters and words in a DJ Fonts text layout. The Texture Flip Flop plug-in is a Layer Effect that can be applied to any or all of the layers that make up the DJ Font. It fills the chosen layers with the textures from a defined texture table, replacing the previous layer contents with textures based on a number string corresponding to the table's nine texture swatches.

  After the Texture Flip Flop plugin is installed, you can access it directly as an effect which can be applied to any layer under the Edit DJ Font tab. What is unique about the Texture Flip Flop effect is that it will allow you to do a Fill effect on individual letters and words in the text layout using custom, preset or random number codes to determine textures from a 9-swatch texture library which you define. This effect can be applied to any or all of the layers that make up the font.

  The Texture Flip Flop effect can be applied on a per letter and per word basis. When you select Per Glyph from the Flip Flop Order dropdown menu the textures defined in the texture library above will be applied to the text layout with one texture per letter in a pattern determined by the Flip Flop Type
  
  When you select Per Word from the same menu, the textures will be applied to the text layout with one texture per word, again in a pattern determined by the number sequence specified in the Flip Flop Type dropdown

  The Flip Flop Type menu determines the pattern in which the texture swatches in the texture library will be applied to the DJ Font layer selected. This pattern consists of a string of numbers, with the numbers 1 through 9 corresponding to the numbered texture swatches above. There are several options for determining a texture fill pattern.
  1. You can select one of the preset number patterns in the Flip Flop Type dropdown menu
  2. You can enter your own number string pattern
  3. You can choose Random to create a unique number string which will change every time you adjust the Randomize seed value

  The Texture Flip Flop effect hinges on the textures defined in its Texture Library area. These textures can be customized, saved, swapped and deleted.
  1. There are a number of ways to define the textures for each of the 9 texture swatches in the current Flip Flop Texture Library. You can click on the Assign Texture link to bring up the Assign Textures panel . In here, you can select each swatch individually and assign textures chosen from the various categories of textures contained in your DJ Fonts Texture Library. The Assign Texture link is also available by right-clicking on a swatch in the current Texture Library and choosing Assign Texture.

  2. Once the Assign Textures panel is open, you can also drag and drop textures from the Juicer Texture Library to any of the 9 swatches in the current Flip Flop Texture library.
  3. Once a texture is assigned to a swatch in the Flip Flop Texture library, you can also choose to customize it. With the swatch selected, you can click on the Customize Texture link to bring up the Customize Texture panel . You can also access this panel by rightclicking on the selected texture swatch and choosing Customize Texture. The customization options available in the Customize Texture panel are similar to the options available when applying a regular Texture Fill effect to a layer, with the exception that you can apply customized textures to each letter and word within the text block independently.

  4. A number of texture options are also available when you rightclick on the texture swatches in the current Texture Library. A texture swatch can be copied, pasted, assigned and customized from the Texture Swatch right-click popup menu . It can also be cleared completely and assigned a texture of None. When the number corresponding to this empty swatch is referred to in a Flip Flop Type number string, the corresponding letter or word layer will not have a Texture Flip Flop effect applied to it. The existing contents of the layer will show through on those glyphs.

  5. Texture swatches can be moved around within the current Texture Library by dragging and dropping. Dragging one swatch onto another will swap their respective positions. Pressing the shift key while dragging and dropping will copy the dragged swatch color onto the new swatch position

  To save a Texture Library as a Texture Flip Flop preset so that it is accessible from the Browse Library link, you must first click on the Save icon at the right side above the texture swatch grid. This will bring up a Save Preset screen where you can assign a name to your new preset. Click OK to save.

  Text with the Texture Flip Flop effect applied can be converted to the LiveFont format using our LiveCONVERT plug-in. In this way it can beused directly in LiveType, FinalCut Pro, FinalCut Express & Motion.
  1. Since LiveCONVERT renders your text as individual letters, you must set the Texture Flip Flop Order setting to Per Glyph . Otherwise LiveCONVERT will take the first texture used in your number string and apply it to the entire text block.
  2. Save your custom DJ Font with its applied Texture Flip Flop settings as a My Font within the Juicer. Right-click on the font thumbnail in the Browser Panel to access the LiveCONVERTplugin.

  3. Use the LiveCONVERT plug-in in the same way as you normally would to convert your Texture Flip Flop font to the LiveFont format. The Texture Flip Flop plug-in provides you with a way to change the texture fill of individual letters and words in a DJ Fonts text layout, without leaving the Juicer. You can make the process as simple or as complex as you like, as planned or as random as you need. Because Texture Flip Flop is applied as a Layer Effect, it can be part of a much more complex interaction between layers and layer color effects. Or, when used in a simpler way, it can give a fun, random multi-textured look to your text design by using textures you choose to suit your project or mood.
